Note that I'm not focusing on the splash screen, which is still included at no additional cost. I'm focusing on to whom and for what price you are allowed to distribute their games. They don't seem to publish their EULA online.

FREE is a good marketing tool and generates revenues, proof in concept is everywhere.  They are not a charity and they want to get people into their software, and eventually gain bigger interest and upgrade.  Also this could pave the way for pay to use / addon to come that would probably not exist for Standard......Just watch.......They set the carrot for the taking but watch what's to come :D

As far as their licese, if you publish through their services/website, etc, basically they own your soul sort of :D
Publish on your own, not using their hosting or any assistance/services, and you have to include all respective IP owners in your game license, including the YoYoRunner and any other respective parties.  Also if they assist in publishing and publish for you, you have other restrictions that apply such as exclusivity and other.  Nothing was stopping the guy who was earning $50k a day from flapping pixels to earning money.  It all depends on how you go at publishing your game, before allowing joint publishing or using their host to upload your content and/or game make sure you read the terms and know what you are getting into. :D

If splash screen is the only real thing turning people off (on the surface), it would take me 20 minutes to bypass that via proxy d3dx9_43.dll

Lucky I own Pro though, so not my problem ;)

LOL not even worth it  :P

I don't think people mind the splash after all it would be very unreasonable for someone to complain about a splash screen on something fully functional and FREE.

BTw there is talk about GMS 2, I read somewhere it was mentioned their CEO talked about hoping a beta would surface before the end of the year - But of  course they did mention their new IDE would be available early this year too so you can't really know for sure.  There is also talk about moving to a subscription based model :D

And you said they put hte nails in ENIGMA's coffin, lol I think they actually gave ENIGMA a new reason ! :P

If they really do that paid subscription shit I will dedicate my life to making realistic, graphic YouTube cartoons involving many creative ways for them to suffer in hell. >:D Being serious, the more I find out about these people the more I want to gag. It's not even about running a business and feeding their families. We're just handing easy beer bottles to a bunch of alcoholics. I'm not at all surprised if that's what the bulk of their profits go toward. I doubt they know what charity is.

I agree with TKG, not to be jealous, but I'd say they are all doing better than the average UK dweller, especially when Dailly has the ability to spend his free time playing with GM when not at work, or well that's what he claims.

Yoyo has removed the resource-limited free version, made Standard free, added a made-with-GM splash screen, and made the Mac export $100 (everyone who previously bought Standard or Pro and thus had the previously-free Mac export still has it).

I just downloaded the free standard of GM Studio (1.3.1347) to do some testing, and when i try load my project :

Removed the resource-limited version ?  >:(

If I don't get a 90% discount for my master collection purchase and if they stop supporting SDK updates and bug fixes for 1.X I might as well forget about studio and piggie back on Monkey-X for full Windows Desktop, Windows 8, Mac, Linux, Android, and OUYA support and lifetime updates. Monkey-X does support a good amount of other platforms including user made platform exports but I don't think I'll need any of those.

At least I'm not completely relying on YYG. Monkey-X is a one easy payment of $100 and bam you get everything GMS 1.X master collection does except Tizen which no one really cares about. And with Monkey-X I can reasonably expect SDK update adjustments so my games won't grow incompatible with most recent hardware. I will link to it again in case anyone missed it.

I hate to disappoint you mate ! :P

Look what happened to GM8.1, did they continue releasing bug fixes ? Nope, didn't take long for 8.1 to become obsolete shite.  Lots of people were reporting bugs and the only answer they got is "Sorry we won't release updates to 8.1 anymore, buy GMS"

Monkey Sex ?  No thank you :D

Don't like that one.  It has a class of its own, maybe, but I don't think GMS people will flock to that one anytime soon.

You have to give them your email to get Standard. It's free, just not immediately available in the download.

TKG, Monkey is also open source, you only have to pay for the binaries. I really like what Mark Sibly is doing, his IDE is also Qt. This is of course if we are talking about the same primate....

I don't see any source code links for Monkey X. I wasn't even able to find source code for it in a search engine.
