Yes, you can stay! I don't think that we care about tutorials much mostly because most regular GameMaker tutorials are compatible with ENIGMA. Most developers here range from their 20s to 30s, I'm sure you're not that old. We love having supporters!

The part that somewhat confused me was about your tablet. I think we've had a small joke chat in the IRC about running LGM on Android once before. LGM is java based, so there should be some applications for running it. I might try it one day on my Android tablet. Honestly, I'm waiting for Ubuntu Touch to develop more, so I can use that on my tablet.

I loved your story by the way! YoYoGames has been making some poor decision choices in maintaining GameMaker lately. In comparison, we will always be free.

This bechmark wasn't done well. Robert said in the forum that he was using the non-LLVM version of GM Studio. I ran YoYo's demos and the LLVM version gave me a 200 FPS boost (back when LLVM was in beta, and therefore free). In addition, Windows Task Manager is not meant for benchmarking. Use perfmon and resmon (both installed in Windows 7 by default).

Fair enough. This new theme you gave me makes things a bit better. The message settings you described to me should be default. The initial ones are so... primitive.

SMF is terrible looking and terrible acting. Sure, it does what it promises to do, but it is very difficult to get around. Take the Private Message system? What is that trash? You can't even look at your conversations, all conversations show up on the same screen. The user control panel for SMF is terrible looking too.

We should get MyBB instead. It gets many good reviews and is constantly maintained. Because it is popular, users would have a more consistent experience. Try out the demo.

Some people have most likely been wondering about the status of this project. I want people to understand that for now, this whole project is simply a concept.

About 2 months ago, I started rewriting this project under JoshDreamland's guidelines. This is to ensure that in the future, ENIGMA would work in NGM even in the utmost situations.

So how is this project in terms of usability? Currently, it is a basic text editor. You may open and save text files in a tabbed environment. It will take a few months before I am even comfortable with adding GMX support. With such an abstract system in place, it will be annoying to add anything because it will be much harder to add basic features.

I'll keep you all more updated. After I am satisfied with the core system in place, I will work on GML text editing. This project will not work with ENIGMA for at least a year.

I honestly don't know. I spent days creating sketches and trying to create them in Inkscape. None of my original sketches became the original. The final icon was just me winging it. It doesn't look good small, so I'm going to have it edit it eventually. The SVG is uploaded on the wiki.

It'd be best if you join the IRC chat. Most of us discuss implementations and priorities there. There is a link on the forums to a Javascript based chat, or if you want a proper application, you may download HexChat. We are on the Freenode server. Just select it and type "/join #enigma" (without the quotes) after it connects.

Natural GM and Lateral GM are both IDEs, both separate from ENIGMA. LGM is the only one that works with ENIGMA, however, it is only through a plugin. LGM does not natively support ENIGMA and neither will NGM. NGM is not even functional at the moment. ENIGMA is a compiler, not an IDE.

And while LGM and NGM are not directly related to ENIGMA, both developers (IsmAvatar and me, respectively) do help out with ENIGMA from time to time.

If you are interested in developing for one, NGM is written in C++ and is being created to replace LGM, which is written in Java.

I've tried SFML before. It's much easier than having to use libpng and such for image loading. However, if you are an extremist, you can also check out GLFW. It's way better than that deprecated GLUT.

Scintilla based editors have the following for C++/C lexers:

If this feature does get added, I think this is the best way to add it to GML (or EDL) without losing compatibility.

Everything should be done internally by ENIGMA. ENIGMA should be its own executable. I'm for it.

You can only open text files currently, as I've been rewriting everything up to Josh's specifications. You can use Ctrl+O to open and Ctrl+N to open a new project. Everything is bare. I will create a post on the main thread once it gets major progress.

I was unaware that you could have two different code boxes open like that. It's not allowed in GM8, but now I can confirm that this is possible in GM Studio.

We will definitely have splitting as a feature (you'll be able to split different or same resources together side by side). A clone feature is possible with it.

As for it being a text box, it will be possible to toggle the events (between a control and plain text). Plain text will probably look something like this:

Right now, it looks like a blog of mess, but with code folding and highlighting, it will look like a beaut.

I like the first image. However, the events must be text in disguise (so you can copy/pasta it). I'd also like to be able to toggle that.

In addition, the list of actions, I'm fine with that being a dock. We'd need to modify the drawing perhaps to add in the action dragging properly.
