It seems Atomic Game Engine is not fully working yet (Linux IDE, Win32 Export, etc), don't know if it's under the pressure of recent engine wars or going to be abandoned(I hope not).

Off-Topic / Godot Engine 2.0 & Superpowers available.
February 28, 2016, 01:00:41 AM
If you're following the recent dev news, Godot Engine has go 2.0 stable.

with the new site and Steam page
Home: http://www.godotengine.org/
Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/404790/

Game Maker Studio has gone too far and lost what it originally is, Godot is literally promising for it's community driven and open source development, and now we have many engines to choose, it's just a little information for ya.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW a few former CraftStudio developers made an open source game maker called SuperPowers,
Site: http://superpowers-html5.com/

Unlike CraftStudio, SuperPowers uses TypeScript and some new HTML5 components, the actual workflow is rather an IDE than Game Maker, but I feel most of things are done right(not perfect, but right), and it's still under development.

Off-Topic / Defold Engine tryouts and thoughts
November 11, 2015, 05:02:59 PM
I applied the beta test of Defold Engine, this is free if you want have it a look.

It's there: http://www.defold.com/

One thing I don't very like it is that the project have to be create on their site dashboard and connect your account to google+, and you need to sign-in to use their editor.

However Defold Engine is what Enigma should be, don't get me wrong Engima is cool but Defold is very well polished and most things are tightly integrated. Defold is also written in JAVA and have cross-platform export capabilities to Desktop/Mobile/HTML5.

The Defold site plays the rule of repositories, stores your data, and need constantly be online is a put off for as concerning of usability and privacy, but to be honest it works out pretty well.

Personally I'm into Love2D for now. However Godot have things I want: cross platform.

As it's open source software, tweaking and modifying is easier, at least, try it to make something is fun.

Looks Monkey X is partially open sourced except the core translator. So you can mod it easier if you want.

It's easier to understand that you pay the money for the right to use it, like when using other free softwares, you need to obey the license.

BTW that's a pity to see BlitzMax was semi-abandoned, it IS still a good language but after the release of monkey many ppl leaved it.

There's another metacompiler like HAXE, if you have time you can try t.

http://www.monkey-x.com/

Free for desktop and HTML5, paid extra platfrom like android/iOS, a fun branch of BlitzBasic.

XM(or other module music) support is a solution as it's not hard to convert MIDI to XM with customized sound samples.

from the lib archive doc:
ModPlug-XMMS and libmodplug are now in the public domain.

Hi,

I've just had a little chance to test a few Windows 8(.0) Pro Tablets with default factory setup, this might help to know the devs.

Sony Vaio Duo 11 (i5) (Well, as Vaio Duo are actually UltraBooks and has better Gfx card, but running GLView shows it doesn't fully support 3.0)
Sony Vaio Duo 13 (i5)
Acer Iconia W510 (Z2760)
Acer Iconia W3 810 (Z2760)
Asus ViVoTab ME400c (Z2760)
Lenovo Miix 10 (Z2760)

Some are bought by me, some are from my friends.

It seems these models are only OpneGL 2.1 capable(default), and has Shader model 3 support.
DX9 is not present by default, you have to manually install it.

I can't determine is Windows 8 or integrated Intel Gfx chip limited this, but at least I know in Enigma,
OpenGL 1 mode will work well(installed and tried).

Windows 8.1 Tablets are coming, but I think the driver is about the same, if you're trying to distribute your game to NetBooks users, you may have to meet the requirements.

I remembered why I changed to HAXE.....

As I'm a former BlitzMax user, BRL seems instantly ditched BlitzMax after Monkey is out.
BlitzMax is still selling, but the latest update  is about 1 or 2 years ago, the modules are outdated and still need improve,
but BRL didn't deal this, and left many issues to it's users.

I choosed HAXE as alt least is open sourced, but to set it up is a pain.

I bought that coz I like it's mojo 2D engine, but rarely using it.

For some unknown reason one day I downloaded HAXE and OpenFL, then stick to it for a long while till now, HAXE is similar to Monkey in some aspects but it's a open source meta language.

Maybe replacing the button artworks with new icons is a good idea....

I've used MMF in few years around, if you really want real clicking tools with power, I'd suggest you go MMF/Compil/Construct
http://www.clickteam.com/ or http://www.compilgames.net/ or https://www.scirra.com/
As to Click products like MMF is way easy, the making of a game is so easy if you have enough media files, that covers part of my school life.

While AGS is around 2.5, I used it to make a game for interactive tutorial in my company, and it's actually easier if you followed a proper template, but it depends.
I've stopped using AGS as it doesn't support unicode and even with source released, the runtime is hard coded to use bitmap ascii, no intention to tinker that much.

Personally I don't know how the internal of ENIGMA works, I can only use LGM but its possible to write specific IDE for ENIGMA depending on how you know about ENIGMA and your coding skill, investigate time and resource into it to make something, as I think make a Adventure Game template for ENIGMA is also a way that you don't have to make a new IDE from ground...

Adventure Game Studio beat that completely

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/
and is open source software....

AGS is even capable for games like action, for example http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/games/yahtzee/artoftheft

Give it a try if you have time, it's fun to use.
