Title: Steal the Gold
Post by: time-killer-games on April 21, 2019, 03:27:53 PM
Made with GameMaker Studio 2 and ENIGMA.

Gameplay Video - https://youtu.be/deYkWan-t7E

The video is outdated. I've added a lot of new stuff since then.

You can download it here (https://samuel-venable.itch.io/steal-the-gold).

It was made with GMStudio 1.4, since 2.x doesn't support GLSL ES shaders on Windows, which is stupid they dropped support for that.

It's YoYo. Would you expect anything different?  ;D :D

YoYo could honestly not give a shite about Windows users anymore, so they can't be arsed to commit to anything related.  Their intentions from the start was to make an all in one universal product which compiles to all sources at once - so if something is not supported on the exports, that windows does, it will deprecate it.  The main shift of their product is mobile and console, they couldn't give a flying fuck about Windows.  This is where ENIGMA wins me over.  I know for a fact if ENIGMA will support multiple export options it will not break its windows side.  After all YoYo is a BUSINESS, they WILL do whatever brings them money, and could care less about what people want - people keep asking for stuff, and in the end they deliver one big disappointment after the other.  Just like when people cried they wanted a new IDE, they delivered the bloody IDE, problem is, people didn't want shite - they should have listened to exactly what people wanted, they spent more resources on the IDE than anything else TBH.

But this is different though, they had this working on all platforms, including Windows, they dropped support on Windows because on Windows they relied on a shader converter they created, which converted your GLSL ES code to HLSL for DirectX compatibility. The problem is they just didn't feel like maintaining it anymore. While it was possible, it was considered too much work for them to do, is my guess on why they stopped supporting it.

Edit:

Also, this topic is about my game, not about hating on YoYo like you guys always do. Believe it or not, there are better things to talk about and/or obsess over than a software company's shortcomings....

Another hypothesis is, how many people really used shaders in their games - if it was high demand they would likely have maintained it.  Not many people raise the bar with game development using that software, only a small percentage do.  It's nice to y ou see you, hpg and few others produce original and fun, good gaming.

Also believe it or not it is the shortcomings of said company the reason why most of us are here on ENIGMA.

Regardless, some good points were raised nonetheless, and we can all thank YYG for helping ENIGMA succeed, and we are going to have this same conversation on GMS3 release, which will be basically the same turd rolled in glitter ! :D
