Tips, Tutorials, Examples / Setting up External Editors

If you didn't know, LGM allows to use your own editors for coding, image editing, background editing, and sound editing.
This isn't issued within the wiki, so I'm making a tutorial here.
To find your external editors, you have to go to "File > Preferences" in the LateralGM menu. There, you'll see a tab called "External Editors".


To set an external editor, you have to make an execution command for it. What do I mean? Well, do you know how does Windows shortcuts work, don't you? They store a "destination" value, more likely a Windows command, to be executed when you double click them. These destinations are formatted so they compose of 2 noticeable elements:
The "execution command" for external editors work pretty much the same as the shortcuts' destination.
Now you will ask me, "how do I get those destination things?"... I'll do an example for you.
I will be configuring Paint.NET as my Sprite Editor.
And that's how it's done.

- Go to the location where the software is located, via your Windows File Explorer. In my case, Hard Drive (C:) > Program Files > Paint.NET.
- Now, click on the address bar. It will turn into an address to that location.

- Copy and paste that address to the external editor field you want to setup. Don't forget to add the quotes.

- Now, add a backslash to that address, and write the full filename of the application you're going to run (obviously, it has to be located inside the folder you just addressed).

- Finally, add a %s to the field, after address outside the quotes. That %s is a parameter. It will force the program to start up AND open a file given by LGM. So, when you click into sprite editing, it will send a temporary file to the program. It's a bit complicated to explain, but I'm trying to make it understandable.

And that's how it's done.

I have a little suggestion, which may be or not be useful.
I know you are using Dropbox as host for the ENIGMA Portable ZIP and how Dropbox works in terms of file hosting, but I wonder if it would be better to have a Wiki template where you store the current link to that zip.
This could be useful mainly to the translation forms of the Installation wiki page; if the official link changed by any means (e.g. deleting-and-re-pasting or renaming the zip file), then the links stored at translations would get broken. But, if the provided link was a global wiki template which only admins could edit (obviously), there'd no problems about this one possible issue (which will only occur for the spanish translation atm, heh).
Sure, someone could edit those links. But it wouldn't be very efficient; it might take some time before this detail gets noticed.

Yeah... I think it would only break the system for the translated versions of the articles, though. However, I'm using the DISPLAYTITLE template to keep things easier, it works perfect! Thanks ;P

I have another doubt; is there any problem if I move "/es" pages to their "normal" names?
Say, I translated "Help" article to spanish, therefore the translated article would be called "Help/es". I want to move it to "Ayuda", which is the spanish transliteration. Can I?

Oh. Came here, saw this.
My appreciaton to the ENIGMA Dev Team, basically for making a great Open-Source alternative to GM.
What I like the most about all of this, is that maybe when I go to the university in my upcoming years, I could possibly contribute to this project in its technical side (I might be being too optimistic, but isn't it great to be like that?), and not just make games with it :3
Because I'm heading towards Computing Engineering (if that's the career's name in english, heh).
My appreciaton to the ENIGMA Dev Team, basically for making a great Open-Source alternative to GM.

Hello there. I'm Benjamin from Chile, looking forward to the ENIGMA project since I knew about its existence some months ago, and finally came to the forums.
My most sincere appreciation for making such a powerful tool, btw!
