Hey guys. Not quite sure where to post this, but I thought feedback might be most appropriate. Your forum registration is a bit hard. I know you're trying to filter out spambots, but I think "name a yellow fruit" is probably sufficient for that. The question about a less-common language used in Enigma is probably a bit too hard, particularly since you have to leave the page to find the answer (and it's not even particular obvious if you check out the "about" page, where it actually says "a language similar to GML"). Plus, this being a web forum, you don't require particularly hardcore account security -- you might want to consider lowering the password character requirement to 5 or 6. Someone who is signing up for your forum is really in the top 1% already in terms of interest in your project -- don't lose them by frustrating them at the outset. Peace, Bart K. P.S. I apologize for showing up and complaining. I know it's obnoxious, but I think this might help you increase forum registrations and, by extension, the size of your community. EDIT: If you must require 8 character passwords, noting that on the registration screen by the password blank would be helpful.

Actually, bots kept getting past the first question, which indicated to me that they're either smart enough to segment the domain name based on its - location, or they had enough time to guess any relevant keyword turned up by Google (or available on that page). Really, it seems more likely to me that a paid hand got through it by being smart enough to read the logo atop the page (which seems ridiculously unlikely considering ENIGMA's small pagerank: how can any human have just happened upon this site?). The filter was designed to stop not only bots, but uninterested humans.
GM's language, its tileset pseudonym, and ENIGMA's own language were all acceptable answers. Needless to say, we haven't had any bots since. (In fact, we've had two new users, yourself included, and neither has said anything about sterling silver or real estate).
I'm going to give this a week, and if no bots join, I'll try it with just yellow fruit, for which there are a bazillion acceptable answers.

Yes, without a pointed question about ENIGMA, I suppose so. (SMF's verification questions are disdainfully featureless; I had to program in the patch for multiple answers myself).
Feel free to recommend some and their appropriate regexes. (No / at start and end; that's automatic.)

I kind of like what the second question is getting at. Basically, I'm going for things the typical ENIGMA user would know. (Or should go fucking learn before asking about it here <_<).

That's SMF's default behavior. But for now, I'm enjoying the fact that we have three new members and zero new spam bots over the course of what, a week? That's three more members and four less spam bots than we usually get. I'm not sure what the correlation between a strong captcha and an increase in members is (perhaps they were lurkers who saw this post and wanted to see what the challenge was?) But I'm at this time quite enjoying the current set.
