General ENIGMA / New theme, anyone?
« on: June 08, 2008, 02:39:05 am »
I'm planning to create a new theme, somewhat like this (with a standard forum/topic view though), mainly because the current one is kind-of broken, and it doesn't seem to work too well.
Post your thoughts here, and if you have suggestions about another theme I should try to be inspired by, post here.
Just for the love of god don't post anything ridiculously detailed ¬_¬...
I'm going after something minimalistic, and of course it has to fit in with the site theme...

Proposals / Re: Id like to see this get better an dmore functional
« on: June 05, 2008, 01:54:26 am »LGM is the interface. We can't control it or what it's written in. ENIGMA is the compiler. I am working on writing an interface myself that will hopefully replace LGM helping us have total control over ENIGMA's interface. Please understand that it will take time. LGM has been in progress for 3 years. I've been working solely on the interface in a visual editor for over a week. That's just the interface taking a week. Making it actually do something is going to take a long time. GM's IDE is very extensive.Awesome.
The IDE i'm making will be written in C++, will use GTK+ 2.0 and will be cross-platform, and I will be deviating from the bad aspects of the GM IDE's design.
But please, for the love of god, keep this image and the word "consistency" in mind.
isnt this the forum for feedback on lgm/enigma or we you call it?LGM has its own forums located elsewhere.
well the thing is enigma kinda promotes itself as a 'better' game maker."Kinda"? ENIGMA is meant to be another game development tool which can act as an alternative to Game Maker. Were we to create an absolute perfect copy with all support, I'd be expecting a lawsuit like Microsoft vs Lindows.
NOw alot of people like myself would use it to load in gmk or gm6 files and then simply compile them to give a smaller more secure compilee exe. Why? ENIGMA's sole purpose isn't to be an awesome Game Maker. It's an alternative. Get your facts right.
Now when i load in my gmk which uses two extensions and three-four custom gm libs, enigma/lgm would not recognise them hence stopping me from compiling these and hence kinda defeats the point of using enigma/lgm.
In terms of using it as it is for game or application developement there is no way i would use it, i mean the java based gui and dialogs etc... are aweful! Id rather use game maker! In terms of using Firefox < 0.8 for web browsing there is no way i would use it, i mean the bugs and bugs and bugs etc... are aweful! Id rather use internet exploder!
These are my views, you may have your own.

« on: June 04, 2008, 12:59:21 am »I have noted the following. So therefore, ENIGMA should be a clone of a piece commercial software in every possible way? Some of the aims of ENIGMA make it impossible for this to do so. Look at script_execute. If ENIGMA is to be compiled, it would need to be also able to compile the given string into working code, and that would require a parser, effectively bringing up the size of executables to Game Maker's size.
if this is to support gmk anf gm6 files it should support all the features of both gm6 anf gm7.
For example in both users can add there own action libs. So you should be able to import these into enigma. Why? Why do we need to import things made for something different? Is it an important uber cool feature?
Also gm7 uses extensions. Enigma should also support these. That would make it good.Ditto the above. And it would require more decompilation of an encrypted format (although I am aware that the license of Game Maker 7 is quite unclear on these issues)
Also id like to say just because it supports gm files it doenat mean the gui has to be just like gm itself. There are many areas of the gui of gm which can be improved upon.I agree with you here. In fact, that's the only thing I agree with.
For example the room designer in gm sucks. How about being allowed to select and drag multiple objects around the room?

I'm going to be making an installer soon, so don't worry.

General ENIGMA / Re: When can we be expecting a beta?
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:57:47 pm »
Won't be for some time. Not even half of all the GML functions have been implemented, and there's still many instabilities that make the current releases stay as alphas.

Announcements / Site-wide logins
« on: April 19, 2008, 03:03:02 am »
You may have noticed in the top-right corner of the header, there's some user info. That's right, I'm attempting to have a global login for the site.
Once the project is done, EDC and the forum will share the same memberlist (using the forum member IDs), which also means the bugtracker will actually use the site ID.
If you have any comments, put them in the feedback board.
Enjoy ^_^

With a little luck, this'll be followed by a merging of the community and the forums, then release three.

Announcements / Bugtracker registration
« on: April 15, 2008, 07:02:02 pm »
Funny why nobody bothered to put up a bug report here.
Anyway, I've deleted all the accounts, and fixed the registration problem (hopefully).

Still allowed to hijack newsposts.
<-- This is why this isn't the first result for "ENIGMA C++" or "ENIGMA GML" on Google. It's also why there's a month between each cache update.
mitchedit
We decided to dump mantis after all. It's a pain to use, not to mention yet another registration for our poor visitors :(
Well, anyway... the new one is integrated into the community to thus simplify things; plus registration is not required to report bugs. Don't hesitate to use it!

I didn't decide on choosing to dump Mantis, but whatever. Time to integrate the bugtracker and add CAPTCHA now...
a2hedit2
Integrated! Just note that the EDC bugtracker uses the same storage location and mitch works on it; the bugtracker accessed via the main site is just a different front-end done by me. Captcha coming soon, and redoing the layout slightly later.

A new naming system. Because Josh wants his own version system.
Anyway, yeah, it's out.
Josh will update this post when he wakes up.

Announcements / URLs and download section
« on: April 13, 2008, 04:30:25 am »
The news post lover strikes again!
Anyway, you may have noticed that the site's sections now apparently are normal htm files. Yeah, htaccess is a beautiful thing.
This should make URLs a bit cleaner. Enjoy.
Also, download section redone. Should be much more cleaner.
a2hedit3:
Menu border is no longer black. Yay.

I'd rather have DirectX omitted entirely. Do we really need to write more just for the sake of having support for another API? OGL is awesome for it being cross-platform; its not like it doesn't work on Windows.
It's like changing a stormwater drain to fork at a point and join back together a bit later.
