Been good. Still writing the good codes, still fighting the machine, still puffin the herb.
I think my C++ skills have increased in those 205 days, but who knows for sure?

Alive and kicking. Every once in a while I tend to drop off the internet map for a while. Then I found myself thinking of this place and couldn't resist popping in to say hi. I also went to GMOT to find it almost dead. GMC seems to have shrunk too. I'm glad to see this place hasn't gone the way of the dinosaurs.

You should learn C++ before C, or you risk picking up bad habits from C which are used to work around the features it doesn't have, which C++ does. C is a functional subset of C++. Anything you can do in C you can do in C++, so you wouldn't be missing anything. Or skip both, unless you have the masochistic desire to write a game in C++ ^_^

How about since Enigma is supposed to be cross-platform, you only include features that are cross-platform. I haven't been keeping up with Enigma but is it still even supposed to be able to compile any GM code?

I sometimes wonder if you know where the line between optimism and delusion is.

It will always be in beta, which is convenient, because then you can use that excuse to dismiss all criticism forever.

Off-Topic / Re: How not to comment code.
« on: February 21, 2009, 10:21:45 am »Code: [Select]
void pathFindingAlgorithm()
{
const int maxIterations = 3;
for(int i=0; i<maxIterations; ++i)
{
...
}
}
You don't need to comment code that speaks for itself.
Sensible commenting here might be a brief description of how the algorithm works and, if relevant, side effects of the function, like states that change, assuming this could belong to an object.

Never assume a byte is eight bits [rowley.co.uk]. Use sizeof(variable) * CHAR_BIT for the true number.

Note that they will almost definitely not work on Linux.Um... Why? Linux provides an interface for DLLs very similar to Windows.

Sure you can, but note that a boolean still takes up four bytes even if there's just one of them, as a rule of C++.One, at minimum [cplusplus.com].
Incidentally, it's 4:32 AM.
