If it's that important though, and if Ism doesn't do it himself (i'm not sure how what you're doing works, so you may be doing this already as you code it) I'll gladly force myself to implement mplay_ functions using another engine or Ism's engine D:
I'm not coding anything that specifically needs compatibility; I just thought that the idea of the Enigma project was to be 100% source compatible with GM while /also/ providing lower-level stuff and C++. Otherwise it's a C++ IDE with a better standard library and some GM import capability.
You are right though, someone will implement mplay_ on Ism's framework to do it anyway if they need it. mplay_ is a pretty poor setup anyway, no serious online GM game uses it.

It is very loosely based off of the mplay_ functions for GM, but will be a completely different function set and will be much more powerful (e.g. ability to connect to any web protocol, be it http, ftp, smtp, ssh, or just your own multiplayer protocol). As it stands right now, however, it's much lower level than mplay_, so it may be a fair bit more challenging, especially if you want to port the entire session/game/etc layout of mplay into your game.
Does that mean it won't be directly compatible with mplay_ ? As in you can't just load any old Game Maker game into Enigma, hit compile and have it function the same? Because I thought that was the point.

R3 is almost unusable for compiling real games. It's alpha or pre-alpha quality, for testing purposes.
Josh's internal build, which is over a year later than R3, is probably a lot more usable but not released yet.
In short, don't expect anything to work yet.

Will any of these new additions help with pure-GM users? For example, by making it easier for you to code some GM functions or systems? If not, it seems a lot of work to implement a peripheral feature, when you could release without it and add it later.

Josh, can you make some sort of 3D function test program? I just know AMD cards are going to have issues, especially under Linux, since AMD's open driver doesn't really implement anything above GL1.3 for some reason.

Tell me, which cards support the required extensions? If you're basing this on an Nvidia subset on the basis that that's 'standard' (like Wine does) then AMD cards will have issues.

As fast as any C++ and OpenGL using game uses surfaces. Which, looking at the titles out there, means you have nothing to worry about with dual GTX260s.

Ubuntu is how most people will see Linux when they try it, and how most people will be running and reviewing Linux applications. It may not be the fault of the kernel programmers but they need to share some responsibility for fixing it in Ubuntu [if it needs to be fixed] by communicating with their kernel developers or issuing a patch to reverse/mitigate the change Ubuntu makes.
For example, the NT kernel by itself is lightweight, portable and designed well. But the vast majority of users only see it in Windows, and would assume it is slow, bloated and locked-in to x86. So it is irrelevant how good the kernel is or how it's meant to function.

- Yes, I've been using Kolourpaint, but it keeps crashing, takes ages to start up and some of the functions don't work in exactly the same way as MS Paint.
- I am using the proprietary Flash. Still uses 100% CPU all of the time.
- I mean as in the Vista search box - type and files appear. I wasn't aware the terminal commands indexed the whole PC's filesystem. When I used Tracker or Beagle it consumed most of my CPU time.

- Why? Tracker/Beagle use too many resources, and standard Gnome search feels like the ultra-slow XP search.
