Congrats! We still call some of our colleges universities. There's some distinction between the two, but it's fallen out of the public lexicon. But we say "college," not "uni." You go to college by attending a university.

Thanks! Would the college be like an undergraduate level and the university to get a professional diploma? You know kind of a technical professional vs an engineer, or am I getting it wrong?

There is university at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Some countries like Canada call it College (meaning after high school) then University. You have to go through college to go to university in Canada.
Meaning you have to waste your time with senseless, retarded courses in college for years, you will probably never use, in order to access university later.
Might work different in other countries.
BTW congrats on your field of study.
Thanks DK2! Here we have only higschool and then university but still half of your time in the university you take general courses common to most fields with only a little bit of stuff that's really pertaining your choosen field. But I don't think that's bad, it gives the student some general culture among other things. I'll be taking Mexico's Socioeconomic context, human development?, administration fundamentals, thought skills, bussines models, operation's research, organizational structure, strategic planning, economic engineering, investment proyects; besides the courses that are strictly related to software development: Operating systems, data bases (design, administration), statistic, discreet math, calculus, oo analisis and design, oop, design and architecture of software, OS programming, .net programming , networks, software development metrics, IT security, web programming, mobile programming, and some other course I might be leaving out. I only hope they give us some other languages besides net java and javascript, C++ would be a welcome course, hell even C would be welcome; you can't programm an Operating System with Java or net languages, can you?

Congratulations! I'll be taking Mexico's Socioeconomic context, human development?, adminitration fundamentals, thought skills, bussines models, operation's research, organizational structure, strategic planning, economic engineering, investment proyects; besides the courses that are strictly related to software development:
Operating systems, data bases (design, administration), statistic, discreet math, calculus, oo analisis and design, oop, design and architecture of software, OS programming, .net programming , networks, software development metrics, IT security, web programming, mobile programming, and some other course I might be leaving out. I would personally probably switch those two around, as the second list is a lot more technical, which is useful for CSE. If I remember correctly, EdS^2 is from Italy, so he probably has the same university definitions as me. I have high school (grade 10 to 12) and then collage is the more "professional education", but university is "academic education". So you can go to collages and places like that to learn how to weld, for example. You don't have to go to both. When you go to Uni, you have to study 3 years for bachelors (most cases) and 2 years for masters after that. Then 4 years for doctorate.

I can't, the order is established by the University not by me. EDIT: What in sam's hill is CSE? And I didn't put them in the order I'll be taking them, I sepparated the thechnical (programming) courses, and the other stuff. If I remember correctly, EdS^2 is from Italy, so he probably has the same university definitions as me. Nop Iḿ from México, yet the structure is similar although here there's no college per se, only schools where you can get a technical degree on electricity and such, then we have what you could call "higher technical college" but in reality is a 2-3 years course to get a professional degree for instance in software development (not sure if this is your bachelors degree, or if you can keep on studying to parlay it into a masters degree) that you take in the university, and then there are the "normal" university courses which talke around 4-6 years (These would be your masters degree, right?) and latter on you can get a doctorate. From what I understand, here you have to take and aprove a full blown university course, then you take other courses to get your masters degree and then you take more courses to get a doctorate; so an average of 5 years for university plus whatever you need to get the masters plus the time needed to get the doctorate, I'm guessing about ten years in all.

That's exactly what I got, in a single exam I finished Highschool with a human resources administration thecnician degree atached to it, the university is a 4 year course. If you want to pursue a college education you could go this way: http://www.openuniversity.edu/Or this way: http://www.open.edu/openlearn/Or this: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-department/Or this: http://online.stanford.edu/The last three are free but give no acreditation while the first is not but it gives you a nice MBA

Thanks for the good wishes and the same to you I don't know that I'm "smarter" than you, I do know that I'm dumbber than a lot of people, Stephen Hawkins for instance. Whatever floats your boat man, if you're happy working in the shipyard then by all means do so, but don't discard a college education just because somebody told you that you were dumb, on the contrary go to college and shove your MBA up their asses (Followed by your fist, wrist and elbow ).
