I recently stumbled upon Haxe which is cross-platform programming language with a syntax style similar to JavaScript. http://haxe.org/Multiplatform Haxe can be compiled to all popular programming platforms with its fast compiler – JavaScript, Flash, NekoVM, PHP, C++, C# and Java – which means your apps will support all popular mobile devices, such as iOS, Android, BlackBerry and more. Open Source Haxe is open source and free to use. It has the right formula to become the next industry standard and is already garnering many adopters in the coding community whom we’d like to fondly call, the Haxers!

I think it was Leonardo da Vinci who once said something along the lines of "If you build the robots, they will make games." or something to that effect.

Now that you mention it I think I remember seeing that before, I had no idea any of these existed.

@popcade I bought monkey a while back but one thing that isn't clear with me, it now says monkey is open source, but it also costs money for all platforms, which doesn't make sense to me. Is Mark referring to just the monkey module is open source or is everything including mojo open source too? How the heck can they manage selling it all if they give out the source?

The IDE is actually Qt you can tell just by looking at it. If you read Marks blog and look at the source for monkey you'll see there are a lot of (*.bmx) or BlitzMax files, that is because Monkey is written with Mark's programming language. It would be like us writing LGM in ENIGMA. http://marksibly.blogspot.com/The Monkey X repository. https://github.com/blitz-research/monkey

FreeBASIC's compiler is written in FreeBASIC. Whilst game orientated, BlitzMAX is a general purpose BASIC, just like FreeBASIC. If ENIGMA's ultimate goal is to be a C++ wrapper, it's a bit moot as to whether or not it could compile itself. GML proper, however, would be an entirely different proposition.

IKR I bought BlitzMax and just a week later I discovered it was no longer supported so I bought monkey ($80 robbery, but it's really my fault not BRL's) I really should've read up more on it I wouldn't have bought max if I already knew about monkey at that time.
