Programming Help / Re: EDL & ENIGMA functions, syntax etc.
« on: June 04, 2014, 09:04:27 pm »http://docs.yoyogames.com
If any function doesn't work as advertised on ENIGMA it will be YYG's fault
Thank you I'll be sure to let them have a piece of my mind.
Is there somewhere I should look for this?
It's not in the wiki, and I can't find it in the forum.
For documentation here:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Documentation
Functions documentation here:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Function_Documentation
EDL exclusive functions (Only available in ENIGMA) here:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Category:Function:ENIGMA
Thank you very much, the drag and drop part already saw it, but I wasn't able to find the part about programming.

Anybody want to volunteer testing this with onboard video or non AMD / NVIDIA card ?
Tomorrow I'll do it, mine is onboard video card, I only hope to be able to do it!

General ENIGMA / Re: New Beginnings
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:56:19 pm »I was talking about interesting game engines. For example Microsoft has dropped support of XNA, but a new open-source project has been made : Monogame. (c.f http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MonoGame). The repository is here : https://github.com/mono/MonoGame. I didn't test yet, but at first glance it seems very interesting. It is a modern framework based on a well know framework made by MS, it is cross platform (OS, Android, Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, and PS4 soon !) and for the programming language, you can use the .Net languages. As i understand, what is missing is an IDE similar to GM Studio.
Edit:
For the IDE, you have the following choices:
MonoGame for VisualStudio
MonoGame for MonoDevelop Windows
MonoGame for MonoDevelop Linux
MonoGame for MonoDevelop Mac
Actually what is missing (Much more important than a friendly IDE) is a full content pipeline that works on other OS than Windows and without the need to install VisulStudio and XNA on windows!
The addin they have for linux needs the newer monodevelop, which you have to compile in several steps since you cant compile it in the version most distros provide; you need to compile two or three versions in order to get it working, and learn how to have two or more mono versions working in your system without breacking it!
Also if you want to use monotouch or compile for ios your closed source game you need to buy the licence!

General ENIGMA / Re: ENIGMA on Sourceforge
« on: June 01, 2014, 01:13:04 pm »QuoteThere's no reason to use all, true but people keep downloading from sourceforge since the project's page is alive and the downloads function, and those people see a project with 3 years without an update, since nowhere it says you should go elsewere to download the most recent version. The only thing we should maybe do is remove that sourceforge site. But hosting on multiple ones is stupid. They are not actually meant for people to download or popularize the "product" from. They are for developing the "product". So it's version control, not distribution or marketing. And for source version control we use GitHub.
I would just point to the project's site for downloads but... It's not my decision to make.

Off-Topic / Re: The choice was obvious, and it wasn't Enigma
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:58:35 pm »Ok, I see your points, and they are very good. Can't say I disagree, but I don't have time to maintain hosting of ENIGMA on a bazillion websites, like other projects, there should be other people helping out, but nobody ever does.
I have some time and would love to help.
If it were easy to build a .deb I would already have done it, saddly it's not.
ATM I'm teaching myself C++ to see if I can help with Radial/NaturalGM (WTF?)

Off-Topic / Re: The choice was obvious, and it wasn't Enigma
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:46:32 pm »Quote from: TKG@Robert i'm not sure what you mean. Either I'm stupid or it was something I missed. You can upload and share the file download. I'm not sure what else it's supposed to do.Let's say I upload a file version A, B, and C. The current version is C, but a user wants to download A, can Google drive allow them to select the version of the file, or do I have to send them a special link, or is it just simply not possible with Google drive like how Dropbox won't let you guys do it either?
As long as the files have distinctive names as : ENIGMA v1, v2 v3, etc.
Quote from: TKG@Rusky the majority of humanity that could potentially consider enigma will be turned of by Git, I'm not just speaking for myself, but for the benefit of ENIGMA. I don't know anyone who know how to crap around with got other than fully experienced software developers. If enigma is supposed to target beginners at all or people who don't want to fart around with years of coding like GM does then git simply is just not an option at all. It's insanely easy though, and you might want to think about all the Linux users that love utilizing their terminal. In fact, git revision software and package managers are the reason why software on Linux does not bloat your operating system because of the reuse of binaries and libraries. It also makes it insanely quick for a developer to do things, it's also possible for you to make a script and put the backup code in there and simply run the script. Although I use Windows because of Linux having shitty drivers for everything, I prefer to use Linux for software development and programming. Linux is a programmers paradise.
I have to disagree:
1.- The kind of Linux user that loves using the terminal is not (in general terms), the kind who would be interested in ENIGMA (Other than as a developer), they would develop their games using vim and svn because "that's what real programers use!"
2.- At the moment the vast majority of Linux users are using: Ubuntu/LinuxMint or something as easy to use, because it solves most of your drivers problems for you and also because of launchpad, the easy way to get stuff not in official repositories without compiling it! just check http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity and the number of books dedicated to that segment and you'll realize I'm right.
3.- For this reason you may want to think about getting on launchpad (hint, hint, wink, wink)
4.- Gues what Linux distro I use!
Also, GitHub is the most popular and basically the best revision software, it is a million times better than SVN, if we were still on Sourceforge you can guarantee people would be a lot more pissed off.
git is the shit compared to anyother revision software true but... Sourceforge allows you to use more than one host for your code, also as I mention in another place sourceforge may help luring more developers to the cause.
Quote from: TKGOne thing I agree with Jimmy_D on is the whole scope of git and this repository shit will mean the end of enigma (just one of many potential reasons). The only people who should mess with got are enigma's devas, not it's game development users. That's an entirely different audience. No that couldn't be further from the truth, git was created by Linus Torvalds, the Linux Kernel is hosted on GitHub.
https://github.com/torvalds
https://github.com/torvalds/linux
YoYoGames also uses GitHub.
Facebook uses GitHub.
https://github.com/facebook
Google uses GitHub.
https://github.com/google
That is an argument from popularity and any way it kind of proves TKG's point.

General ENIGMA / Re: New Beginnings
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:21:13 am »Yes, I've decided I am going to make this an engine for advanced users.
No drag and drop, strict C++, and an entity-component system.
Count me out for about two or three years before daring to try it.
Why not both settings like lonewolf proposed?
Begginers with all the bells and whistles
Advanced with just the code editor
Even advanced users take advantage of something like GMS to do quick prototypes, if you, as an advanced user, can do both in the same ide with the same engine; you would save much more time!

« on: May 31, 2014, 07:49:01 pm »Rob, I am all for it and am more than happy to help with the project
Wish I could help but I don't know C++
As and offtopic : How come there's not a croudfunding campaign for ENIGMA?
I have wondered the same thing in recent times.
I guess the answer would partially be 'commitment'. Once you successfully crowd-fund you are committed to the task. Most how the devs have voiced that they do this as a learning project and/or a hobby.
When you have people all over the world paying for this to be done it is a whole new ball game.
You may be on to something there...

General ENIGMA / Re: ENIGMA on Sourceforge
« on: May 31, 2014, 06:50:05 pm »There's no reason to use all the open source hosting sites. Almost no project does that; the exceptions usually mirror their repository to GitHub because they're not cool enough to switch fully. ENIGMA moved to GitHub around that time, so SourceForge is no longer updated.
There's no reason to use all, true but people keep downloading from sourceforge since the project's page is alive and the downloads function, and those people see a project with 3 years without an update, since nowhere it says you should go elsewere to download the most recent version.
Also a legend requesting developers could be placed there, this could bring the hands needed, not a garanty but a posssibility but still.
Again just my two cents.

General ENIGMA / ENIGMA on Sourceforge
« on: May 31, 2014, 06:25:45 pm »
Just wondering why the last commit to sourceforge was on 2011?
Since one of the problems of ENIGMA/LateralGM is lack of developers... Shouldn't there be a strong presence in this sites?
Sourceforge
GoogleCode
Etc.
Just a thought of course.

As long as this does not herald the demise of ENIGMA I'm all for it. And since Robert already said he would keep working in both projects...
As and offtopic : How come there's not a croudfunding campaign for ENIGMA?
You could hire developers to squish out the bugs and/or to add functionality.

Issues Help Desk / Re: Linux GMFormatException
« on: May 28, 2014, 12:46:01 pm »Ok I have fixed it and now managed to successfully load the project on XLIB.
You can obtain the fixed LGM by downloading and replacing it manually from the extra packages page or by running python install.py
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Install:Extra_Packages
This was the commit where I made the reader convert file paths to be UNIX compatible.
https://github.com/IsmAvatar/LateralGM/commit/5844d1bb5ca2d659a431c121276b9659dfabb714
You did it!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I ran install.py and now it opens correctly the GMX, you're a genius!
Another point for ENIGMA-LGM, response time from reporting a bug (or was it a feature? ) and the fix is almost instantaneous; I know that some bugs take longer than others but still GM has bug complaints that don't get adressed or the buggy feature is retired instead of fixed WTF?

Proposals / Re: Easy Cross-compiling?
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:40:20 am »LOL - yoyogames is actually hiring at the moment. No way I am moving to Scotland for a pay cut though
It's a shame then that I don't know enough to apply for the job, I'm sure it would be many times over what I'm currently making and besides...
Drinking single malt not blended scotch there must be way cheapper than here in México.
