So many people have bought YYG's games, we are talking hundreds of thousands here. If mobile games are the future of gaming the future of gaming is shit. Just like everyone else who shits up the appstores, YYG clearly don't deserve the attention they're getting. I particularly find buying Froad to be the dumbest use of a dollar I could think of I realized after buying it. All these GMC/sandbox geeks drool and orgasm over Mr. Karoshi and They Need To Be Fed while I for one find those two games to be almost as bad as Froad. There's several levels (almost most of them) you can beat first try in under 30 seconds without even giving the game your full attention. Even very early Mario and Sonic games did better than that, each level on these take at least several minutes. They Need to be Fed has only one "enemy" or way to lose in almost every level - static spikes. Early Mario and Sonic games have not just spikes but all sorts of enemies, great variety, too. Every level has several different types of enemies all act differently from one another. Almost every level introduces a new type of enemy. Old Mario and Sonic games have boss battles, none of YYG's games have this. Why are mobile games shit? Sure, there are a few that can take up a few hours, you can be lost or lonely and pull the thing from your pocket and bypass a few minutes of boredom. But generally, there aren't many games on mobiles that you'd go out of your way to play.

Fuck you game developers, you are writing your own future wishes against our true wishes. The real reason they say that is because it is less work for more money. It's all about the money and nothing else.

TKG, I second your entire post, I've always said the same thing myself, people having orgasms over mobile games have made it more about the money and making a game easily while quality generally suffers. A large portion of the AppStore may be Game Maker games, but they are also probably very poor quality as a result.
Very excellent in my opinion.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who sees this. Yet it's funny because I'm attempting to rise above the others and make "real" games that deserve to be in the appstore and I fail miserably in the process. I'm still working on it though. Come to think of it, what's your current plans in the techno world, Robert? Are you still pursuing game development, or software, or are you getting turned off by digital development overall? You have an obvious gift when it comes to programming, I'd hate to see you scrap that talent.

My thoughts exactly. Flash games can't be played on most devices so free apps are flash on the go. literally everyone I know only gets free apps. Whether android or iOS. I was the only person I knew who actually bought apps but I certainly don't waste my time with that anymore.
I also find it hilarious how all these people are saying html5 is the future of free mobile gaming when both on my iPod and my android tablet, html5 has been around for roughly 2 years now but they still run slow as shit on my devices and so slow even the most basic games aren't playable (not to mention there's no sound on ios). Html5 is slightly faster than flash on desktops, which is cool, but html5 game creators shouldn't waste their time on mobile browser games it's not worth it almost no decent game is going to go faster than 5fps in a mobile browser. They just don't have enough hardware support, this including all android and iOS devices.
About the whole "1 day to create" scheme, YYG and all of their showcase quotes put so much emphasis on how the games were made in about a day or so and they brag about it as if such rushed, short, small efforts is even a good thing. Games should take time to be expanded and polished, stretching the limits, not just one tiny day of creating something stupid and calling done when it clearly isn't, then moving on to another stupid 24 hour project.
"Okay I have GMS they said games can be made in one day so let me quickly get this over with, hurry up, be a lazy ass and submit it to the appstore at 11 PM tonight flat and yay I'll be fucking ritch you just wait and see."

I recently started developing with GMStudio for the OUYA, which is an Android OS based videogame console. It was awesome, I bought an OUYA on Amazon and it shipped directly to my front door in less than 48 hours. Then I found this: We spoke with some of the homeless for their opinions on the Ouya console.
“I figured I might as well try the thing since I was busy getting more water,” mentioned Jeff, “When I had a home, I remember playing games like Super Mario World on my Nintendo. These games on the Ouya are not as good as the really old ones I used to play so I can’t see how this can possibly survive in today’s market. Do you have any change?”

I am adamantly advocating people switching to Unity2D or any other game engine, what other game developers are doing is truly revolutionary, most of game makers graphics is designed around the old fixed function pipeline and everything. And ofc my posts about GM and its automagic optimizations, you know it can only go so far, what Studio is, is basically putting some wheels on a turd and calling it a mustang. But basically GM is out of date in a lot of ways, no matter how hard they try to bring it into the modern era, it just wasn't designed for optimized game development. Unity is new like a lot of other game engines, it doesn't come from the Windows 95 era of programming, these new game engines are built from the ground up with new and modern game design in mind.
