Need to give Cinnamon a go. Or MATE. Dunno which.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texture_atlas - might this work as well, if used in conjunction with batching?

Issues Help Desk / Re: Possible dumb Qs: OpenGL 1.1 and Windows, and the .ini module.
« on: November 27, 2013, 05:28:39 pm »Well you don't need the INI extension under Windows, as Win32 has ini functions by default, just by virtue of it being a default feature of the operating system.Never really got on with cross-compilers, though might try that out.QuoteWhat would be nice, if it isn't, is if there could be support to disable selective modules (like this one, or the MCI CD commands) under OSes that don't need (or support) such extensions. There already is, but I don't limit any of them to a specific OS because a lot of users are on Linux and they use a cross compiler patch to build for Win32 and test the games in WINE, so they don't like having the stuff hidden from them, and it really don't hurt anything anyway.
But yes, that is actually odd that 1.1 works but not 3, as I am currently working on stuff for 3 and d3d, but please paste the output log of OpenGL 1.1
I am getting some really weird things happening though, with trying to recreate the OpenGL 1.1 failings. So I have the line "audio_play_sound (snd_IAmMusic, 0, true)" in my code. Last time I ran ENIGMA (Win32), it compiled and ran. This time (still Win32) it's failing with
Quote from: output_log.txt
audio_play_sound Syntax error in room creation code for room 0 (`rom_IAmRoom'):- it had also mysteriously changed the sound libraries to use from OpenAL to DirectSound (I've had issues with events disappearing from an object, too - related?).

NB: I do not have the DirectX SDK installed. If it matters, 32-bit XP SP3.
And now the thing is compiling and running with OpenGL1.1 selected.
I have absolutely no idea what the fuck just happened, or why this is happening. I'm tempted to blame Avast for this - it played merry hell with each and every program ENIGMA calls, and every time I test or compile my project it insists on running its "Deep Screen" analysis.
I hope the log makes some kind of sense, at least?

Issues Help Desk / Possible dumb Qs: OpenGL 1.1 and Windows, and the .ini module.

Is the OpenGL 1.1 module supposed to work with Win32? Because I've tried to compile using it, and am getting errors about it missing X11 libraries (XLib to be exact). OpenGL 3.0 works fine, though.
And the .ini module - not compiling under Windows. Is it not supposed to? What would be nice, if it isn't, is if there could be support to disable selective modules (like this one, or the MCI CD commands) under OSes that don't need (or support) such extensions.

« on: November 27, 2013, 05:00:26 pm »Yeah that is really the only reason I can't make Linux my main desktop, bad drivers and the GUI.I like the GUI with Linux I'm using (GNOME). Can't stand Unity. And as for drivers, well... so far, I've not run into any issues there.
But I would like a separate computer to make into a Linux distro for development, as Linux is veryyyyy friendly to developers.

« on: November 27, 2013, 04:55:09 pm »I like things about bother operating systems, Windows for its user interface and friendliness and Linux for its comprehensive development environment and package systems. Can't say I'd be keen on using any tablet device to type long documents on, really.
I also think the RT Surface is really neat, with its nice trim keyboard and all, good luck typing word documents on an iPad :\
As for Windows, it's useful, though it tends to be more a gaming OS for me (primary OS is Ubuntu, might switch to Debian though). Using XP right now, but I guess I should really get 7 (don't want 8.x). Need to get my main PC up and running again first, though...

General ENIGMA / Re: License Exemptions
« on: November 26, 2013, 06:56:12 pm »
If you're still looking into this, a possible alternative to the (L)GPL might be the Artistic License (version 2) - http://www.perlfoundation.org/artistic_license_2_0 - the most high-profile project I know of using this is another game creation package, Adventure Game Studio. It possesses GPL compatibility, thanks to the relicensing option in section 4(c)(ii). It may offer more protection.

« on: November 26, 2013, 04:27:22 pm »
Guess I should make a post here then.
Sslaxx is the name I go by most places. Played a lot with a lot of game making software, never done much with any of them. Wanting and hoping to change that with ENIGMA though. I've looked around here on-and-off for a while, last time I checked this place ENIGMA was a lot rawer than it is now (think it was back in the R3 days). But never joined. Until today, anyway. Let's see what happens!

General ENIGMA / Re: SVG Graphics

Would love to see SVG support in ENIGMA. There's some interesting SVG-related stuff out there for GM it seems, like Inkbridge. Maybe look into Synfig as well? Especially as the latest version of that has implemented a bones system (which would fit well with skeletal animation for 2D, no?).
