.NET/Mono is yet another thing Microsoft/Novell made that only works in Windows/Linux, which really pisses off developers.
No. Mono is NOT a valid alternative to .NET. Mono doesn't even fully support the first version of .NET, never mind the subsequent ones. Also, almost all real-world .NET programs use a mixture of .NET and WinAPI, so you need Wine too (and that isn't even properly native). Anyone that uses Mono has the threat of MS's software patents to deal with. The 'protection' from the Novell deal only extends to Novell paying customers. Besides, C# isn't actually better than Java, so there's no point switching even if .NET was open (lol) and cross-platform.

I don't think .NET was ever planned to be cross-platform, more like 'cross-language'. .NET does have some advantages. You can write a C# app and convert the code to Java# which is pretty neat. Also it's 'easy' on the programmer and more productive. But all-in-all I hate Microsoft for being so damn stingy with thier toys...
They should learn to share.

If it's on page one, I think bumping it's fair game.
Bumping newsposts is >_<" though.
