That was the culprit.

Strange it still doesn't work. Both "libalure1" and "libalure-dev" were already installed on my system (Linux Mint 17.3 / 64Bit)

Very nice game.
But I had do run the windows version via wine. The linux binary gave me the following error:
Just some slight critique:
- Sometimes when hitting the yellow boxes from above I just fall through without collecting them
- Maybe you could add some force upwards when Jumping on the slugs, it feels strange just to smash them without any feedback.
- You could add some instructions with the action keys. When I arrived at the snowman bossfight I didn't know how to throw snowballs so I tried different key until the "q" brought me back to the main menu with all progress lost.

General ENIGMA / Re: What do you want?
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:18:29 am »I have to ask, are you aware of the function documentation? I ask because many users seem to have a problem finding it and I do not understand why. Function documentation is probably the most completed documentation in ENIGMA. Drag and Drop actions are fully 100% documented too.The function documentation is indeed very well made (I especially like the example part at the bottom). What I was referring to is the table in the "Overview" part of the documentation page:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Function_Documentation
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Action
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Documentation
I think this is where most newbies will look because they assume to find a deeper explanation of the single mechanics and how they work together.
Some of the most interesting topics like pathfinding or AI don't even hold any content:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Path_Finding
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Artificial_Intelligence
Or may even confuse some (windows) users like here:

(Besides stability of LateralGM on Windows) I think the most important thing to do is increasing the number of Enigma users.
To be honest the webside neither looks appealing nor active. The most needed thing are new developers.
So my thoughts are:
Homepage:
- add a table of engine features with an example screenshot each to show what enigma is capable of on the first sight. (images matter a lot)
(what I have in mind is something like the features section of the godot engine (http://godotengine.org/features)
- Move the "News" to a news section so that the first thing newcomers get to see isn't the slow pace of development (dates in the news entries)
- The menu bar in the headder should be more prominent. The items are very small.
Wiki:
- The documentation is very scarce. If you are not having a GameMaker background (like me) you'll be left in the rain. Most tutorials on the internet are made for GMStudio which isn't 100% like Enigma anymore.
- The Tutorials (e.g. http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Tutorial:Making_your_first_game) don't look very pleasing, whey are not creating any appetite for more. There are only few (if any) screenshots. (Maybe I can help out here. At least with a basic one)
Downloads:
- A dropbox link as official download doesn't look professional. Maybe a release could be created for download on github.
- Linux and OSX binaries should also be downloadable, most game developers won't want to compile the engine themselves. Arch isn't a common distribution, there should at least be a deb package for download.
- Linux compile instructions don't work for me on LM17.3. The install script runs without errors but running with "~/enigma-dev/start.sh" throws an error (bad interpreter - no such file or directory. Running the IDE with "java -jar ./lateralgm.jar" works though.
PR:
- Enigma is quite unknown right now, there are very few (if any) indie games out there which are made with Enigma. I know advertising for an open source engine isn't easy cause of the lack of $$ but maybe it would be an option to post the engine on Steam (when the IDE is stable). This will definitely attract some people.
- Enigma-Dev needs a Wikipedia article or at least be mentioned in the list of game engines article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_game_engines

I do like the blue design by rcobra but without knowing that we are talking about an IDE for a game engine, just by looking at the logo I'd assume it was some business application.
In my opinion some playfull elements are missing in the logo.

General ENIGMA / Re: Compile to JavaScript
« on: October 11, 2015, 05:39:58 am »
Sorry for digging out this old topic again but I'm interested in the state of EnigmaJS.
Somewhere I read that it was more or less a proof of concept. I recently downloaded the IDE and tried to run a project with a simple sprite on screen without any logic.
But the compilation progressbar stopps after about 1/10th of length. "writing game to html5"
Did you actually get so far as to make it compile something or is the fault on my side?

Well for Linux users like myself there is no way around LGM. It runs quite solid on Linux by the way, there are hardly any crashes.

I'm so pleased that enigma isn't dead. Really like the new changes. Many thanks for your efforts.
Personally I don't care at all if enigma is compatible with Game Maker. When I found this engine I didn't even know about GM.
My biggest concern though (as already mentioned) is the stability of LGM. Good usability/stability of the tools (IDE) is way more important than a huge set of features imho.
Unfortunately my knowledge of C++ is very limited so touching the code would probably do more harm than good but I would be glad if I could be of help in another way.

I like Theme of Tempest too, sounds really nice but I think the "-- -- - - - - | -- -- - - - -" pattern gets a little too repetitive in the middle. A little more variety would be cool.
The Factory Zone feels kind of hectic and disturbing (maybe it fits the mood of the setting dunno).

General ENIGMA / Re: First Impressions Of ENIGMA
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:37:22 am »
My first impression on Enigma by having a quick look at the documentation section in the wiki and viewing some screenshots was just "WoW!".
I'm running linux on my computer and apart from godotengine there is no other game engine I know of that comes with a level editor and a text editor with code completion.
Compiling was quite easy thanks to the nice tutorial but I encountered an issue when running LateralGM cause of a version conflict of JNA that I could solve by purging the already existing JNA lib.
I have never used game maker before (*cough* linux guy) so I was a little lost at first. There was this cool feature rich game engine but I could only find two small tutorials about how to create a simple game with it. After reading in the forum I found out that the IDE design is actually based on game maker. With this information I could find a heap to help online.
I haven't done any serious projects with Enigma yet but my first impression is absolutely positive.
The only worry I have is related to the inactivity on development side -> no commits since end of 2014.
So from my point of view this things should be adressed:
- Fix the JNA issue as soon as possible. Not everyone is as patient as me.
- Make clear that the IDE is built like game maker so noobs know where to look for tutorials and stuff.
- Create binary zips for linux or add at least a package / repo for debian (ubuntu, mint, etc) based distros which are the majority at the moment.
- Advertise Enigma. (Maybe create an official "Enigma-Dev" channel on youtube and post some videos (feature presentations / tutorials etc)) Sadly the engine is absolutely unknown at the moment even among us linux users that have few alternatives.
- Choose a license that allows for commercial publishing of games
