So, some guys from South America - http://okamstudio.com/ - have (almost) released their internal development engine - Godot - to the public.

http://www.godotengine.org/

I say almost, because there's no download option on the main site yet. There still is on the old Wiki though - http://www.godotengine.org/wiki/doku.php - but no Linux 32 bit edition (yet). Says it supports 2D and 3D etc. And extendible via plug-ins. Looks worth a shot.

I ran onto that a while ago! I love seeing all these new indie game engines popping up with a new alternative to indie design, different from GM which has dominated for too long imo.

I think it was Leonardo da Vinci who once said something along the lines of "If you build the robots, they will make games." or something to that effect.

It's still a bit rough-and-ready (no 32-bit Linux support, audio import is limited among other things, not to mention a lack of documentation), but pretty functional yes. I'm hoping they get 32-bit Linux support sorted sooner rather than later, too.

Looks cool. This "gdscript" business has got me confused though.
http://www.godotengine.org/wiki/doku.php?id=gdscript Anyone can check that out and figure out exactly what the "extends" keyword does?

It's inheritance, like with C++, Java, C#, etc. GM's parent objects work very similarly as well. The difference is that you don't say "class foo extends bar" because you don't put anything around the contents of the class- it's just the whole file. So you say "extends bar" in the file by itself.

I can't believe anybody would consider using this fucking piece of shite software.
What a joke.

- Gay name
- Lacking in many areas
- Nowhere to compare with other tools.  It's so lame.

Oh. Right. Files are classes in gdscript. What threw me off is the fact that there is a class keyword, but it's only for defining subclasses it seems.

Well said !  You probably noticed that some of the stuff you tried has a steep learning curve and might be aimed more towards people who have lots of time on their hands to build a game and more knowledge on code and learning new ones.

it's a pleasure to know that many folks have no literary endowment in the sense of endowing with literary...ness.
