Title: I'm officially not . . .
Post by: edsquare on September 19, 2014, 06:43:07 pm
 A Highschool dropout anymore!  :eng101: ;D Aced every subject but one so my final average grade was 9.85  :D  :pseudo:

 (Y) So glad I could do it, now I'm taking the tests to get into the University (College for some of you) and become a Computer Systems Engineer  (Y)

Congrats! We still call some of our colleges universities. There's some distinction between the two, but it's fallen out of the public lexicon. But we say "college," not "uni." You go to college by attending a university.

Thanks!

Would the college be like an undergraduate level and the university to get a professional diploma?

You know kind of a technical professional vs an engineer, or am I getting it wrong?

There is university at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Some countries like Canada call it College (meaning after high school) then University. You have to go through college to go to university in Canada.

Meaning you have to waste your time with senseless, retarded courses in college for years, you will probably never use, in order to access university later.

Might work different in other countries.

BTW congrats on your field of study.

Here we have only higschool and then university but still half of your time in the university you take general courses common to most fields with only a little bit of stuff that's really pertaining your choosen field. But I don't think that's bad, it gives the student some general culture among other things.

I'll be taking Mexico's Socioeconomic context, human development?, administration fundamentals, thought skills, bussines models, operation's research, organizational structure, strategic planning, economic engineering, investment proyects; besides the courses that are strictly related to software development:

Operating systems, data bases (design, administration), statistic, discreet math, calculus, oo analisis and design, oop, design and architecture of software, OS programming, .net programming   :-\ , networks, software development metrics, IT security, web programming, mobile programming, and some other course I might be leaving out.

I only hope they give us some other languages besides net java and javascript, C++ would be a welcome course, hell even C would be welcome; you can't programm an Operating System with Java or net languages, can you?  ???

I would personally probably switch those two around, as the second list is a lot more technical, which is useful for CSE.

If I remember correctly, EdS^2 is from Italy, so he probably has the same university definitions as me. I have high school (grade 10 to 12) and then collage is the more "professional education", but university is "academic education". So you can go to collages and places like that to learn how to weld, for example. You don't have to go to both. When you go to Uni, you have to study 3 years for bachelors (most cases) and 2 years for masters after that. Then 4 years for doctorate.

I can't, the order is established by the University not by me.

EDIT: What in sam's hill is CSE? And I didn't put them in the order I'll be taking them, I sepparated the thechnical (programming) courses, and the other stuff.

Nop Iḿ from México, yet the structure is similar although here there's no college per se, only schools where you can get a technical degree on electricity and such, then we have what you could call "higher technical college" but in reality is a 2-3 years course to get a professional degree for instance in software development (not sure if this is your bachelors degree, or if you can keep on studying to parlay it into a masters degree) that you take in the university, and then there are the "normal" university courses which talke around 4-6 years (These would be your masters degree, right?) and latter on you can get a doctorate.

From what I understand, here you have to take and aprove a full blown university course, then you take other courses to get your masters degree and then you take more courses to get a doctorate; so an average of 5 years for university plus whatever you need to get the masters plus the time needed to get the doctorate, I'm guessing about ten years in all.

Lucky.. I'm getting My GED (general education diploma for highschool dropouts) soon if all goes well, but that still isn't as good as your education.

Lucky.. I'm getting My GED (general education diploma for highschool dropouts) soon if all goes well, but that still isn't as good as your education.

That's exactly what I got, in a single exam I finished Highschool with a human resources administration thecnician degree atached to it, the university is a 4 year course.

If you want to pursue a college education you could go this way:

http://www.openuniversity.edu/ (http://www.openuniversity.edu/)

Or this way:

http://www.open.edu/openlearn/ (http://www.open.edu/openlearn/)

Or this:

http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-department/ (http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-department/)

Or this:

http://online.stanford.edu/ (http://online.stanford.edu/)

The last three are free but give no acreditation :-\ while the first is not but it gives you a nice MBA  (Y)

who cares. you're still smarter than me. I can tell just by talking with you. Congrats! I hope your future is bright and fluffy! :D

edit. thanks for the links btw, I don't want to go to college and I'm going to work at the shipyard hopefully so I'm good, but thanks though! :)

Thanks for the good wishes and the same to you  :D

I don't know that I'm "smarter" than you, I do know that I'm dumbber than a lot of people, Stephen Hawkins for instance.

Whatever floats your boat man, if you're happy working in the shipyard then by all means do so, but don't discard a college education just because somebody told you that you were dumb, on the contrary go to college and shove your MBA up their asses (Followed by your fist, wrist and elbow  ;) ).

I never take anything for granted, as for higher education going to my head, I'll try, that's a really good advice thanks.

What does the image have to do with anything?

Are you hintin at my colaborating with ENIGMA's development?

Believe it or not that was already among my plans which include a software and or games development company, and conquering the world  ;D

He means once you are finished with your CSE, in a few years time you can fill his shoes and take over ENIGMA (and the world too :D)

By the time you finish your course, ENIGMA (and GMS) will probably be so obsolete and forgotten anyway as the mobility CRAZE takes over and shitty apps take over the world and those who still insist on desktops will be shoved mobility interface down their throats. basically running everything in emulation mode :D

Now those are some mighty big shoes to fill, I'm not sure I'd be up for the challenge. I can and will collaborate with the project but I doubt anybody would be onboard with me leadding, especially since I would drop GM compatibility so fast you couldn't see it happen, and also I would go for a compiled IDE.

If you really believe that ENIGMA will be obsolete in 4 years you should drop it now  ;)

About the mobile interface on desktops, maybe is time someone took an opensourced DE project and forked it for windows, in linux we have the advantage of being able to switch DEs as often as we want, and there are some projects that were funded by unity hatters and won't go that way any year soon  :D

You'd get my 100% support on this one, and I'm sure many here would do the same.  Providing the program is feature rich (equal or better), properly documented function, easy/fast, it would be great.  The only people who will disagree are those who want to port their games or don't realise the downfall of such compatibility :D

Why not enjoy the good days whilst they last. In 4 years we'll be shitting in smart toilets, have smart toaster ovens, smart door knobs, smart everything.....lot of things will be obsolete, including desktop, PCs, CPU architecture as we know it, lots will change....Mighty ENIGMA would be running in "EMULATION" mode....People will be too busy with SHITTY apps and mobility to care about desktop game dev tools........

Or perhaps in 4 years it will be called ENIGMA Cloud.....Since everything will reside on the cloud, your OS, your applications, etc. Welcome to the tyranny of technology, the sham to come, where people will be controlled and no longer have a choice......BIG brother will be watching, and you won't have ANYMORE liberties, not even to piss.

So enjoy your 4 years, you will probably need another 4 to get up to date with new technology, new CPU architecture and re-learn everything. :D If you don't believe me of what's to come is DIRE,
then look up remote viewing, I've done it and I don't see people using windows desktops in that time span.......Just look at smart watches, it's only the beginning of craziness.

Anyway it most probably would have to be a fork or ENIGMAStudio or something like that.  :)

As long as GNU/Linux exists such a bleach future can never come to be, the switch to mobile everything, I believe is several years (if not decades) away, smartwatches . . . How much do they cost? A regular ElCheapo digital watch is around ten US dollars; I don't see the whole world throwing away their current stuff and buying much more expensive things to replace it. Did you know here in México we still use DVD's?, most of my relatives haven't gotten around to buying a BR-Player, and that includes people that can very well damn afford to do so, now think that about half the mexican people live in poverty, and there are a lot of countries where the situation is much more dire.  :(

Will the manufacturers refuse to sell in parts of México some technology in favor of the new? Will the manufacturers risk turning their consumer base en mase towards switching to GNU/Linux powered machines?  ???

Of course if you're a die hard Mac fanboy and will buy anything they produce you will make the switch to what they tell you to,  :raise: but most of the world isn't like that.

Can you see the real powers (Mega corporations, goberments, scientology, armies, the CIA, etc.) using hardware that forces them to do and keep everything on the cloud?  ???

And risk wikileaks, anonimous, etc. getting to their info?  ???

Not gonna happen any time soon if ever, microsoft may switch the "free" apps that come with the OS to a cloud based use, but nobody is going to buy/rent Office if it works on the cloud, why? Because if somebody hacks their servers they can have access to stuff you don't want anyone to see (Porn, love letters to your mistress, financial stuff, etc.); so again no, is not going to be so suden and so profound as you envision it to be.  ;)

And most important, it won't happen so soon if ever.  ;)

If you drop GM compatibility then ENIGMA would not fit at all, you would need a new name, :P

Well if you have switched to flat screen TV HD then you are not doing it justice with that DVD player :D  You would be blown away with BR......and besides BR also plays DVDs, and amazingly well too.  My Sony BR player does a damn good job at playing my DVDs, better than the scaling of my previous DVD players.

Quote

True, these countries will hang on a bit longer to old technology......but otherwise technology is moving at a fast pace.....Have you ever been to Japan ? You should see some of the gadgets they have there, they are way ahead, compared to North America.....things are moving fast.

I think you are mistaking me with someone else :D I am a PC person, not at all a MAC fanboy..... :P and I won't switch.
if worse comes to worse I will fire up my Commodore 64 - I'm sure some parts of the world still sell them :D and I'll be developing there.....I'm fluent in BASIC and ASM6502 so I have no problem going back to my roots :D

Apps on the cloud will be popular and the new trend......Your documents, personal shite etc will remain on your local storage......This part will be optional. The core APP itself will be on the cloud.

Besides you are using the cloud every single day and don't realise it.  Where the heck do you think all your e-mails are stored........:P

Mind you apps on the cloud might not be a bad thing - providing ISPs offer reasonable bandwidth caps or unlimited and the price is right.  It means no bloat and no installing all the crap on your system....but it means reliance on an active internet connection........internet outage, can't run the app.

Apps on the cloud will be the norm sooner than you think, it might be the ultimate way to combat piracy as no matter what copy protection scheme used, activation, server side ,etc, it gets cracked and defeated.

@DS2:

1.- True, ENYGMA then :)

2.- Nope, no HD tv on my house yet Too expensive amd I wont buy a "smart" tv anytime soon either. (never if I can help it)

3.- Yea but Japan and other countries high on the percapita income are a small part of the people of this blue sphere.

4.- I didn't mean you personally, I was talking about the people that are die hard Mac fans.  :eng99:

5.-

a) But wile I'm working on my shit it is in the cloud and therefore exposed to hackers.  :o

b) Yes I know that, but I am a rare bird, I don't do online porn, dating affairs or any of that shit. My email is mostly for work related issues (Sending curriculums and getting responses)  ;D

6.-

a) Exactly what I believe is a really weak point at this time, most of the world are lucky to have a 1Mb internet connection, the vast majority of the human race doesn't even have one.  :-\

b) The best anti-piracy scheme I can think of is selling great stuff at a really low price, take for example the movie industry : A new DVD of a just released movie goes for about 30-50 US dollars, while most mexicans earn about 50 US dollar a week, so they naturally buy the pirate version for 1.5 dollars; it makes sense, the best pirate versions are almost indistinguishable from the originals and go for about 4 US Dollars. Couldn't the industry make the movies and sell them at that price? Okey lets say at double that price, most people would buy the original rather than the pirate version, and their "problem" would be solved. The same goes for games, software, etc.  ;)
