General ENIGMA / Re: Enigma and The Raspberry PI
« on: January 18, 2021, 01:55:14 pm »
Well actually I was just thinking about getting myself a Raspberry Pi 4 as well, so I just wanted to chime in and say: thanks for the news! I'll try to remember that I need to use Manjaro distro too.

Third Party / FWD: My Alternative for XML structures and/or HTML+CSS+Templates+Preprocessing!

Yup, my language is called FWD, pronounced as Forward. And that's NOT an abbreviation for forwarded message! It stands for Functional language for WebDocs! (Well actually I just changed the order slightly, it was Functional WebDoc language, but that word order is maybe a bit confusing.)
Okay, now this is how the code looks, and the corresponding site!

Teamwork / I LOVE making UX designs, would anyone like to be lended a hand making an IDE?
« on: June 24, 2020, 11:20:43 am »
Yeah I really do! By the way, this topic's title is a "spin-off" from someone else's previous topic in this board...
On a more serious note, have you guys heard of the new Expo project for making cross-platform GUIs? It seems pretty neat, so I wondered what you'd think of it?

Third Party / Re: New visual notation for programming and for maths
« on: May 06, 2017, 08:51:47 am »
New features:
- Fixed text manipulation stuff, like concatenating strings using the + operator
- Added backticks as a new kind of quotes, which are not visible in the visual notation and for embedding HTML (use the youtube_embed function for YouTube video embedding!)
- Added better visual editing options
- Added permalinks for RPN formulas
- Fixed 3D element positioning

Visualizing formulae / Graphical notation
Web page: http://imanuelhab.mooo.com/graphical-notation
Ever wondered how a math expression would look like if (perception of) depth, shadows and colors were used functionally to represent operations? In this "experiment" I'll show you one way (and try to find other ways) of expressing mathematical formulae and pieces of code using those visual elements.
Latest additions:

Latest additions:
- Ability to type inside the visual notation
- Support all of GameMaker's real and string functions (also point_direction and lengthdir_[xy]), so that's for scientific calculations and for text manipulation

Finished Games / Re: 2D Pathtracing - Mirrors and lights
« on: December 12, 2016, 08:08:54 am »The link appears to be invalid.Hello Brian! It's not the full experience and it can be rather slow at times, but you could try the web version right now.

I'll see if I'll get around to recompile the Windows version later today.

Tips, Tutorials, Examples / Rough JSON Parsing/Manipulation Library for GM 8.0
« on: November 21, 2016, 04:43:40 pm »
Yambam's JSON Library (GM8 only, at this stage)
My first "JSON library" for GM8 used object instances, which obviously slowed the game performance to a crawl. So behold... my (pretty much) extraordinary JSON library for GM8; be warned though, though it's based around the golden ratio constant for a reason (I'd describe it as "the furthest you can get from a simple fraction"), it's still possible that you'll get in trouble with the combo that consists of (1) my weird logic and (2) GM's number (or floating point, i.e. "real") precision.

Off-Topic / Re: Concept for my next project GWiM
« on: November 17, 2016, 11:19:00 am »This is so true. I'm thinking though, that it would being able to add visual links between resources would be a big help with a lot of things! Unfortunately that's not how the current GMS2's node system was ever supposed to work. :/I wonder whether some of these WM features would help with game development...I hate the visual node system, it's harder to see the flow of the program and it's slower to navigate.
BTW, what do you guys think of GM:Studio 2's visual node system? I think it's a bit overdoing some visual elements, especially the rather slow animations though. The zooming in/out could be useful, since scrolling is impossible most of the time; no scrollbars, every newly opened event contents need to be dragged individually to a new workspace to maximize them? (I'm not sure about that though.) I have to admit, it will take some time to get used to and the price tag is a little much for me, especially in respect to the $15 Humble GameMaker Bundle.
What do you think of my idea though? You could link rooms together 4-6 ways (maybe even 8-direction). Then when you zoom out you could see the connections & reorganise.

« on: November 13, 2016, 09:43:50 am »This paper might actually help you by IsmAvatar where she explains how the entire GM8 format works.Guys I just made a minor adaption from IsmAvatar's document. I know you have another version on the wiki, but this one simply has the exact content from the linked document, it's just an improvement on readability; I just love this tool I discovered called StackEdit!
http://lateralgm.org/formats/gmformat8.txt
She was the one that started LGM many years ago.
https://stackedit.io/viewer#!url=https://gist.githubusercontent.com/Yambam/d818091e9017a22fd9c88be4344db3f3/raw/639f48f6c7d7acc4c289e065db77113fdd33580f/gmformat8.md
As you can see it's just getting the gist from your browser (client-side), it's quite neat.

« on: November 08, 2016, 03:16:38 pm »Don' start with logos or you'll end up like every /tech/ project ever.Don't worry, it was just a quick sketch. I wanted something "gimmicky" and it's just like that I guess. xD Thanks for the advice though.
I deleted it because I realised you were proposing more than what Compiz offered, but I believe Compiz is open source so it should be possible to modify.Ah okay. I think I'll look into that when I have some more free time. I doubt this is going to be a real "thing" though. I mean, I could plug in some simple & useful programs like note-taking stuff with Markdown formatting. I'm thinking doing the whole thing in HTML5/JS.

I also made this logo later that day (last week) using the little experience I have using Inkscape.
