I downloaded Enigma a long time ago and it kept saying the libraries didn't exist, so I figured I installed in incorrectly. This has to be true, because I deleted it and reinstalled it recently and the procedure was completely different, but I came across a problem. When I ran enigma.exe to install it, I got this popup: I clicked "Yes", even though I checked and had already installed MinGW with MSys. I then got this error. I tried running Enigma as an administrator, and that didn't work, so I tried manually copying the files from Autoconf\mingw-get into the MinGW folder. I got the same error. Do I need to install MinGW in a different location (it is currently in C:\MinGW), or it there something else wrong?

If I were you, I'd just rename the old MinGW and let it install a fresh one. I have no idea how or why, but it always fails to copy the files over an existing installation. I specified that it should not bail on missing files, but it seems to do so anyway.
Let me know if that works.
Cheers

It seems to have worked. Thank you! EDIT: It works now, but it won't compile. It says that it is not functional due to prior errors. When I start the program, I get this error.

I take it this is still when running from ENIGMA.exe? If so, that's really weird. Did the compile complete successfully? As in, is there a compileEGMf.dll in the ENIGMA folder?

I'm not sure why LGM would fail to build ENIGMA, but you can do it manually by opening that directory in a terminal and calling C:\MinGW\mingw32-make.

mingw32-make.exe is actually in C:\MinGW\bin, so I used that intstead, but it failed. EDIT: Thanks for being so patient.

Ah, it's not in your path. You can fix it as ENIGMA does by spec (and LGM should, but may not be).
Before you call make, run this command: SET PATH=C:\MinGW\bin;C:\MinGW\MSys\1.0\bin;%PATH%
That will enable mingw32-make to make calls to its other executables.
Sorry it's taking so long to fix. Not certain why LGM isn't building it properly.

Now when I start it I get this error. Unhandled Exception: org.lateralgm.file.GmFormatException - LGMLAF.jar is not a valid GM file, initial identifier is invalid: 67,324,752
Stack trace: org.lateralgm.file.GmFileReader.readGmFile(GmFileReader.java:126) org.lateralgm.main.LGM.preLoadFile(LGM.java:360) org.lateralgm.main.LGM.main(LGM.java:504) I'm sorry to bother you so much. EDIT: I'm not getting this error anymore, but when I try to compile it says Enigma isn't ready yet and it always asks to install new libraries when I start it. Is this normal? Enigma says this, in case that helps.

That means that ENIGMA is functioning perfectly, but LateralGM (or the plugin) is really behaving nutty. I'm wondering if you didn't somehow obtain a broken version...
Let me fetch Ism.

The LGMLAF.jar error can be ignored. It's caused by some internal mechanics in ENIGMA.exe (l*.jar) and nobody has a good proposal for how to fix it. Not sure where your LGMLAF.jar came from or what purpose it serves, but to avoid that problem in the future, don't put anything that matches the filename l*.jar in the enigma/ directory. Rename it to something else, or move it somewhere else, or continue to ignore the error.
If ENIGMA isn't ready, it means ENIGMA isn't ready, so just wait longer. In this case, ENIGMA isn't going to be ready until a short while after you answer the "Install updates?" dialog, after which it rebuilds and then either fails (and reports the problem) or succeeds and is ready.
Constantly needing an update is an indication that your version became unsynchronized with our updates somehow, and the updater couldn't figure out how to update it. This is sometimes caused by conflicting changes -- e.g. you changed some file. The exact nature of the issue should be reported in the full scrollback of the terminal. Please paste/pastebin that and share it here. We do have plans to improve this process down the road, but for now, I'd like to know exactly where it's going wrong so I know of good ways to deal with those issues.

All of that looks great, jimn. Are you able to click Enigma->Run, now? If so, just make sure it has time to compile the game's engine.
