That's great TKG! I'm really happy for you.

I'd like to mention 2 things. First on my main machine, I've had some black bars present. 2nd the graphics looked 'bare' and some dialogs were in a terminal type shell interface; a far cry from your screen-shots.

This happened for quite while. However since I've installed Gnome3 as an alternative Windows Manager, the graphics have changed to be more similar to your screen-shots.

Maybe I was missing some libraries before. I'm not really sure. Just thought I should mention this.

The machine I'm testing on is
  • Lenovo Thinkcentre Desktop
  • 4GB DDr2 800Mhz Memory
  • 320Gb Hard Drive
  • MX16.1 OS with XFCE Window Manager
  • Embedded Video Graphics

I would like to add that there are two sample files; a gm81 file and a .exe file.  you can remove or copy them to your home folder and run them to see how it works.

Thanks for this!

Tips, Tutorials, Examples / Update on previous post

It appears that in one of my posts the download link was not working, so I've re-posted a new link.

the post was in 'A pop up Message Example' in the 'Tips, Tutorials, Examples' section. Sorry about that and the fact that it took so long to correct this. i was only aware of it when I myself checked it today.

thanks faissaloo.

Here's the download link, if anyone with a linux machine wants want to use it. When I've worked out the 'Scene' problem I'll update it.

Greetings everyone. I've done a fun little side App called Desktop Dancer for LINUX. It features 2 animated Dancers that moves to music playing on your favorite music player. You can switch the dancers from a slide menu at the bottom right. there's even a disco ball. :) :)

There's only one drawback.  The Scene button doesn't work as it's supposed to. When I try to switch backgrounds, the app ends. So I've disabled it for now.

As for now its in its bets testing phase, so check it out and get back to me on your thoughts.

Youtube's video link is here.

Dailymotions video link is here.

Be careful of the loud music as I recorded it directly from music playing in VLC player!

UHHHMMMM.......... When I tested it in GameMaker Studio 1.4, it gave 2 errors in the script GenerateCurrentFrame

line 84 pos 185 Unknown function or script: sound_add
line 113 pos 190 Unknown function or script : sound_add

which YOYO depreciated. I commented out those lines and got another error

action number 1
of Create Event
for object ExecuteCode:

Push :: Execution Error - Variable Get -1.ImageWidth(100046, -2147483648)
 at gml_Script_CalculateDirection (line 13) - mousex=ImageWidth-round((PanoHorizontalAngle/360)*ImageWidth)
stack frame is
gml_Script_CalculateDirection (line 13)
called from - gml_Object_ExecuteCode_CreateEvent_1 (line 80) - CalculateDirection()

which I don't comprehend, at least at the present moment.

So that's where I am for now. This weekend I'll peruse on the code and try to solve it. You'll probable hear from me either Tuesday or later depending on how I get through on some other work I'm doing this weekend. Doing freelance work dosen't let one have a strict schedule. One must be flexible.

So have fun  ;D ;D and enjoy your weekend :D :D :D

ok so after extensive testing, it seems to be the 'draw_sprite_stretched...... '

segment that is causing the error. At least it is on my Linux machine. When I comment out that line, I see the cursor but everything else is black. So something else is going wrong.

I'm going to test it in GameMaker Studio and will report the results back to you.

try using the 'draw_sprite' or 'draw_sprite_ext' functions.

Hello and salutations.

I've been quite silent for a while as I've been very busy for the last couple of weeks. My studio is half way finished. I need to build the roof now so I can bring in the furniture and other stuff. I've also been doing some freelance electrical work, IT work fixing computers and network maintenance. I'm also slated to teach some courses later next month on Microsoft Office Training. Needless to say, doing work on my projects have slowed down somewhat but I do look in on the Forum from time to time.

Today i have a lot to talk about but I'm going to focus on just one topic as It relates to an experience I encountered since Monday, as well as I hope you give some feedback to a question I give to you.

Sometime last week, my file-server had crashed due to a Windows update. Luckily i was able to save one of my Backup drives and a huge amount of critical projects and graphics were saved. I lost a lot of my Software I had kept from my younger days, though but that okay. This prompted me to build a new computer with Windows installed to use strictly for Windows stuff.

As for my File-Server, I built another machine and installed Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Windows Server 2016 this time. The previous machine, i installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it and decided to gave it to one of my friends. I didn't install many software except for some games, VLC and Chrome browser. Suffice to say, its enough to get him on the net, play games and look at porn....... :) :)

So I gave it to him fully working but he went and installed 'COMODO AntiVirus' which fucked up the system. First it wont un-install fully
, then the hard drive won't boot, no matter whether I install Linux or Windows. Today I finally got it booting up to Windows desktop, did the Windows updates and installed Avira Antivirus.

With all of ttthhhhaaaatttt said, what recommendations does YOU have for installing 3d games to play. Most of games recommended by Youtube and gamesites are nothing more than Shooter games. I looking for a variety as in Dungeon exploring, Fantasy, Puzzles , mystery. Emphasis should be on the story, rather than the gore and violence.  Mixed content is also welcomed. for example I remember playing one that was a hidden object + match 3 + mystery game before but I can't remember the name. It could also be Openworld like the new Mario game for Nintendo.

lastly, here's the specs on the machine:
  • Gigabyte LGA  motherboard
  • Intel 2.8 Ghz Cpu
  • 4 GB PC2 DRAM
  • Windows 7 Ultimate OS
  • 160 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
  • 160 GB Seagate Hard Drive

thanks for your response and suggestions!

Off-Topic / GM2 issues
« on: February 19, 2018, 06:25:19 am »

Recently I built a new computer system, installed Windows 8.1 and for the first time ever, tried out GameMaker 2. As one who has been a user from Gamemaker 4 to Gamemaker Studio 1.4, I must say that I have become very disappointed and critical of GM2.

First, let me state a few of my machine specs
Biostar A68N-2100
AMD 2.1GHZ  Dual core Processor
8 Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Memory
AMD Radeon™ HD8210 Graphics, (on-board Graphic chip)
320Gb HD with Windows 8.1 x64 Installed
320Gb Hd  as a Backup drive
which is more than enough for everyday tasks, playing a few games and trying out Gamemaker 2.

So I finally installed it and as far as first impressions went, I was not impressed. The Graphic Editor is a joke compared to older GM editions. The interface is clunky and a mess and my god, the compiling process takes 45 secs............(no joke).....................45 secs to compile and run. they even have a counter in the upper right hand corner that shows you.

What the HELL?!!! Even to render an empty project takes that long? Then again it may be my system, right? So I installed a portable version of Gamemaker 1.4 and tested. An empty project ran in under 15 secs. Old legacy Gamemaker compiles even faster, about 10 secs or so.

My second criticism is this the overall Workspace, and layout thing. If you happen to have a HUGH monitor or multi-monitors setup then ok. But when one has a standard size 19" monitor, everything is so jumbled. I literally have to grab and scroll every window into view. For a company that has better programmers than myself, even to code something to detect your monitor and setup a suitable layout should have been prudent.

In fact now that I think about it, it is in this area that ENIGMA excells. On my 19" monitor, i have to resize windows into view, but on my widescreen monitor, everything fits.

I like your project TKG.........keep up the good work. Though I dislike Windows........God it frustrates me so........I do have to use it as part of my work.

It looks very interesting indeed and I will be checking it out later.

Tips, Tutorials, Examples / Old GM projects working in LINUX
« on: February 08, 2018, 10:05:03 am »
I was going through some past projects on an old hard drive and I came across this old Breakout game created by Mark Overmars in Gamemaker 6. The first Game maker game I ever studied in DRAG n DROP. Being nostalgic I made some changes and tweaks to it and have it running in ENIGMA.

It is a great example for Beginners and DRAG n DROP users to learn from and I hope it helps out any ENIGMA beginners as well.

The changes I made:
  • Removal of the Display Instructions
  • Highscore Table
For some reason the 'show_highscore_table()' action does not work in LINUX. Neither does the 'display_message' action. Unfortunately, It doesn't run in Windows and I'm not sure if it will on a Mac.

Tips, Tutorials, Examples / Suggestion on Solving Java errors.

For any LINUX users who are having trouble with JAVA errors, I suggest going to this link. It gives instructions on how to install Oracle JVM which is preferred to using OpenJDK. I tried it and I'm surprised to have loaded a project which was problematic.

it loaded and ran successfully.

Issues Help Desk / Re: Turning On A Variable Disables Character Movement
« on: January 24, 2018, 10:55:08 am »
Ok let's talk a little about global variables. According to Gamemaker online manual, using 'global.<variable>' and 'globalvar <variable>' have the same effect. However, experience have shown this not always to be the case. As a global variable, one would expect any object to be able to access it anywhere at anytime in the game. When you use 'global.<variable>', you need to use that prefix every time or the parser will think the variable is local and output errors.
For some reason using 'globalvar <variable>' creates no confusion or errors.

to do this in Drag N Drop, you need to use a 'Add a Code' icon from the Control tab and place it in the Create event. from there you then use just the name of the '<variable>' when it asks for the name of the variable.

Now, concerning your error.
It seems that you've reference a variable which wasn't declared in the object obj_Pollen. You need to check and fix it either as a local variable or a global one.
