Off-Topic / Re: GM:Studio Standard Now Free
« on: June 06, 2014, 07:07:59 pm »Just saw this on the Yoyo site.
They just hammered the nails harder into the ENIGMA coffin.
Sorry mate but this is where I completely disagree. Remember YoYo is not a charitable organisation, there might be strategic reasons for doing so now. In my opinion Studio 2 is or whatever it will be called (major release, codename GMNEXT) is going to be released in a near future. I'd say probably Q2'2015.

This is where ENIGMA must take a different approach. I.E. - actually work for starters AND have features that are not possible in GM:S.
ENIGMA is geared at a different perhaps more advanced market, guinea pigs, people who like to code or want to learn, people who don't mind work around, etc. ENIGMA does work it just has certain things to address, and it's not because of bad faith they are not addressed but lack of developers and time.
GMS is quite suffice for the type of games most people make. ENIGMA still has advantages:
* GM Standard (FREE) has a "MADE WITH GM" splash screen with a delay. ENIGMA does not.
* ENIGMA compiles, GMS Standard uses a runner. So ENIGMA has potential to be a speed advantage!
* ENIGMA supports most deprecated functions that YYG kindly removed from people for ridiculous reasons. Some of these functions can be used to make advanced applications and games (video functions, external loading, etc.)
* Lot of the stuff non working in ENIGMA can be worked around, (moderate to advanced).
* ENIGMA was never meant to compete with another product.
So they can make GMS Pro *FREE* tomorrow and it won't prevent me from using ENIGMA, why ? Because GMS lacks functions I need. Functions that were present when I parted with my money and actually purchase their product.

General ENIGMA / Re: Modifying the wiki page on EDL specification

If I wanted to add some new functions myself to ENIGMA source, do I need to modify the parser ? LGM ? Is the parser where all the known EDL/GML functions are stored ?

« on: June 06, 2014, 05:17:07 pm »and that there is now the option of buying Pro+exports that was not there before.
Indeed, you need to upgrade to Pro first before buying an export.

Have you confirmed that free still has the stuff that used to be registered-only? Particles, pathfinding, 3D, etc. Because that would put the current situation price-wise as better than pre-Yoyo IMO.
Basically there is no more FREE version anymore, they removed it. They instead made the Standard version FREE, and only modification done was to add the splash screen "made with GM". They did not touch anything else. So whatever GMS: Standard had before, it still has now.
I've never used standard or free versions before, I went from 8.1 Pro to GMS: Pro + HTML5. I believe the standard did have the particles and all the other features, as they are specific to the GMS Studio set, the differences between all versions of studio can be found here:
https://www.yoyogames.com/studio
So I don't see any reason why they would remove particles or path finding or other features since they were already part of standard.

General ENIGMA / Re: Modifying the wiki page on EDL specification
« on: June 06, 2014, 02:42:10 pm »The new parser actually builds up an AST representing your EDL and then prints it out again to C++, as well as directly parsing the C++ headers. It will thus be more accurate, simpler to fix and tweak, and have better C++ integration (this applies to ENIGMA functions as well as standard library functions).
Any effect on games ? Faster performance ? Smaller sizes ? etc.

Yoyo has removed the resource-limited free version, made Standard free, added a made-with-GM splash screen,
The splash screen was always there for free members.

So now it's basically like it was in ye goode olde dayes, but $100 instead of $15-$25, and with more features in the free version. And the ability to buy exports to other platforms.
You cannot do so with the free/standard version. Only the PRO version supports export updates. Example you cannot use the now FREE version and buy the Android plugin. You still need the PRO.
Still a good move from YYG, for people getting started and all. The made with GM Studio splash still remains of course, as it was always there before, but now they removed the limited resources.
The now free version has everything minus the following:
* Texture Management
* Multiple Configurations
* Team Features
* Developer Services Portal (DSP)
* Mobile Testing (Android)
* Windows App Export
* Exports (Android, IOS, YYC etc.) (ability to purchase them)

« on: June 06, 2014, 02:31:36 pm »QuoteYeah but not everyone has a DX11 card. let alone DX10 card. and you do want your game to run on as many systems as possible.I don't think things like lost device are anything to do with hardware version of DX it supports. So it should be possible to use many of the DX11 functions and syntax and still run on DX9/10 hardware.QuoteYeah but again I am not suggesting it is rounding, Microsoft is, I'm literally just being a parrot here, or a parakeet (no pun intended). But that still doesn't make sense, rounding is in the FPU, and changing drivers should affect it's hard-wired behavior.I don't think anything is hard wired anymore. So I am pretty sure all of it can be changed in the drivers. GPU's don't use FFP anymore for a reason.
There are many things you can change in your GPU, majority are hidden from view. You will find such tools online on tweak sites, some allow you to access at firmware level, and some at driver level, many settings for OpenGL, D3D, clock, etc. + some low level advance settings, not for the faint of heart The hardwired ones are actually at the firmware level, and in theory they can be changed with the right tools, although it is never recommended playing with these things.

If you do decide to do this could you please seriously consider adding a selection area to whatever instance you click on in the room.
Example using a combination of key + mouse click on an instance in the room it would highlight or select and show you the respective ID.
In GMS room editor there is a box around the instance, where you can scale etc.

« on: June 06, 2014, 02:20:38 pm »QuoteOR you can mention that your game was made with the ENIGMA engine (far more appealing and professional to read) but have to link the enigma's site and open your legs and arse crack and allow people people to use your source code, sell it, rip your hard work / resources and shit.This has been said a million times, but I guess I have to say it a million more - You are not obliged by any law to release the source. The license says that you have to, yes, but WE (the ENIGMA team) are the ones who enforce it. If we don't care whether you release it or not, then you don't have to release it. And we couldn't really sue you for millions even if we wanted you to release the source, because all you would have to do in that case is actually release it. Like we couldn't sue you for "damages" as ENIGMA is free - the fact that you sold a game and didn't release the source didn't cost us anything. So even if did try to somehow sue for money, then the first thing we could ask is for you to release the source, which in most cases you probably would.
Long story short - Sell your games, keep the source. Nothing of any significance will happen because of that.
Thanks Harri, it's all clear now I promise you though, should I make a significant amount of money say maybe $10 millions or more, I'll certainly send a generous donation. and I might even send something to YYG as well since without YYG, I would probably never have found out about ENIGMA lol!
No but if someone took ENIGMA's source code and profited from it we could sue for punitive damages.
True, but I wouldn't and most people wouldn't, and it would be dumb. If a person has skill and knowledge they'd build a new engine from the grounds up, and make something actually that can be sold.
The guy who made flappy pixels was allegedly earning $50k daily, who knows what amount he could have made had he not been overwhelmed by money and his absolutely retarded mistake from ripping off something that anybody can draw in 5 minutes. So yeah, shame indeed. There's lots of money for the taking, and APPARENTLY it doesn't take much skill Just make a game addictive enough for people to play and have at least 1 million of the 7 billion active internet users pay you $1, and you're set

General ENIGMA / Re: $20 to anyone who does this
« on: June 06, 2014, 11:59:12 am »I need instance scaling in the room editor similar to and compatible with what GMS's room editor has. If someone adds this and gets it working in both LGM and ENIGMA I'm not speaking high pathetically I'm serious I will give you $20 via paypal or whatever method we can agree on. I know that's pocket change but without a job right now that is all I can offer.
Yes GMS has the scaling and rotation in room editor and also it has a selector, if you click on an instance ID in the list, it will put a selection around the instance in the room.
My concern, and maybe Robert or one of the ENIGMA devs can answer this, is that these features would require modification to the LGM code itself along with ENIGMA. Wouldn't the rotate and scale in room editor add some extra overhead to your game (not the IDE, but game execution) ?

Stuff that. Josh can try and sue my for the $1.50 I have in the bank if I make anything commercial with ENIGMA
He is working for a fortune 500 and rich now, so yeah, he's got connection, don't worry he'll find the money
You have a choice:
Either use GMS to make games but then you still have to include the fact that you used a game maker to make your game and the kiddie YoYoRunner that belongs to YYG, bla bla bla .......
OR you can mention that your game was made with the ENIGMA engine (far more appealing and professional to read) but have to link the enigma's site and open your legs and arse crack and allow people people to use your source code, sell it, rip your hard work / resources and shit.
Tough choice.......
I'd go for ENIGMA, hoping one day this Godforsaken license will be amended one of these light years.
BTW you are allowed to profit from your ENIGMA creations and if worse comes to worse and you earn $10 million you can bribe Josh and Robert, nobody wants to go to court, settle off court and bake them some home made apple pie and a mug of cold beer along with a suit case with a couple of 100k's and you'll be fine !

You meant "should not" In theory no, however keep in mind there are hidden settings in drivers to control many internal things that you can't otherwise with drivers. I remember back in the days graphic card drivers had an OPENGL and D3D panel separate, now they really simplified drivers and the number of things you can tweak.
I forgot what the tool was called, which unlocked tons of settings you could tweak on your card, including hidden OGL and D3D stuff, tuner something.......

The awesome thing about DX11 is that you don't have to handle lost devices. The crap thing about DX11 is that you have to handle every single thing with a shader.
Yeah but not everyone has a DX11 card. let alone DX10 card. and you do want your game to run on as many systems as possible.
