General ENIGMA / Re: New Portable
« on: December 10, 2014, 10:58:31 pm »
Thanks Robert keep all the good work all, I see that YYG has been also making lots of changes, some positive some rubbish. ENIGMA is still more attractive and I wish it long life.

Anybody know what happened to lone ? did he vanish again ? CIA duties again ? etc.? :D

General ENIGMA / Re: Quick question on fonts
« on: December 09, 2014, 12:29:25 am »
DS2~ fyi fonts that are copyrighted and used without the authors permission are always illegal, whether the font is in its  original TTF format or is converted to a texturepage, just as illegal regardless of the format, if it isnt your property, it just isnt, end of story.

lol - if that were the case then a lot of microsoft word users are breaking the law.  So by that definition if I use a font in word and print a document I am illegal ? If it were illegal don't you think many companies would be trouble ? All those developer tools with fonts support, illegal too ?

Yes, exactly as Rusky stated, we convert them to a sprite sheet and build them into the executable, this was in fact by Josh's design.

and that's the way to avoid font dependency and legal issues.  From what I know GMS now supports TTF rendering, and if not mistaken they do embed the fonts in the EXE, some are (c) so I wonder if they do so illegally or only do so for non (c) ones....

Off-Topic / Re: what if Atari bought GM instead?
« on: December 08, 2014, 03:06:33 pm »
Nice question :D

Either way, it would have done far better than not being sold and under the helm of M.O.

As to YoYo, they made some shitty decisions, but there again most companies do, in the field, so might be unfair to say that it would have done better with Atari.  YoYo was stuck from the start from the pile of poo that was the code base, would Atari have simply re-written the base from start, who knows. Would have been nice to skip straight to GM Studio bypassing the few disappointed updates they released, would Atari have simply run it through the ground and no GM ?  In terms of bug fixes and frequent releases, would it be far less than YoYo? I guess so, perhaps given that YYG is mostly devoted to GM, so in my opinion I think development might be better of with YYG. In terms of the bad decisions I think they both equally would have made some, who would have made the worse is open for pure speculation, though my bets would go towards Atari.  Perhaps the product would have been more expensive......however ATARI would have had better funding perhaps ? would this translate to a better product ? In my opinion not necessarily.

Though I'm sure the product name would have sounded more professional than YoYo Runner, YoYo Compiler, YoYo Playa, etc. and maybe they would have adopted a new name, who knows.

Though I wonder, why the bloody hell would ATARI have bought this ?

However there is another thing, YYG's relation to Microsoft......Wasn't it founded by someone who worked at M$ ? developed for M$? so given YYG's relation to M$, might enable better support, licensing, etc. Though this fucking compiler should have been part of the product base since Studio, along with the VM runner, but not an option you paid for........ All in all I think it might have been a wise move to sell it to YYG, even though some people seem to think YYG was going to run it to the ground, but somehow they improved and change a lot since day 1 and made big changes and in 2.0 will probably be the biggest change and makeover they make, including code base, IDE and new function set to replace old legacy ones.  So yeah......would ATARI have done the same ? sooner ? Later ? Some might say maybe, I'd be a bit skeptic on that, or if the product were to be better it would take far longer.......

Maybe it could have gone better in some aspects either way.  There are pros and cons.

YYG blames everything on the Delphi code base and limitations of the original GM, and now they bloody woke up years later and will do things way different in GMS 2 , about bloody time !
they have a bigger dev team now and the funding, though who knows how this alleged subscriber model will work.

I agree about the publicity trainwreck comments, but that does not necessarily mean ATARI would have released a better product feature wise.

One thing for sure that I am confident on, with ATARI they'd have a far better forum, not this pile of dung they are using, they would have a much better structured community, PROPERLY moderated, and better support initially, not the FIASCO that was the support desk initially.  Where I am not 100% sure of my answer is product feature base, quality and price.
Biggest fucking mistake #1, keep the IDE and codebase and simply duct tape. That was the fastest easy way, perhaps ATARI would have had a bigger team and suffice funding to make the bigger changes early on.  but then how many features ? how many updates ? bug fixes? there is too many things to take into consideration.

Proposals / Re: Allow me to use C++ in EDL
« on: December 01, 2014, 05:12:40 pm »
Very much agree with you Harri in fact I have a few posts here I made a while ago about some stuff I wanted to do but was told I could not because of the stl containers and certain things not possible in EDL.....  I love your idea to embed native C++ in EDL, bypassing parsing.
There are good uses to this for certain application/games where GM structure is just inefficient.....mind you it's probably efficient for most people using GM lol :P  but there are certain things I want to do that push the limits, and require optimal speed in file and data handling......and short of writing your own C++ function and integrating it into the ENIGMA engine, this would allow proprietary C++ code outside the engine....

Off-Topic / Re: We will be discontinuing YYC Compiler!
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:42:43 am »
So if it's GPU intensive then why the hell would the YYC drop your FPS 40% ..... it's weird.......it's as if it's actually disabling hardware acceleration and using CPU to render lol!

So we can assume it's not the YYC slowing shit down but the CRAP that it is that was never optimised.

I feel sorry for people who actually paid for this crap and yes some have :D

It certainly was $300 well saved.

My main project lost 40% of its framerate when compiled with YYC.  ???

It's hard to believe ! what kind of project is it ? Is it CPU intensive ? GPU ?
If your project has lot of scripts, CPU intensive game, AI, etc it should in theory be much faster, unless we've been lied to all this bloody time.

Feel sorry for the people who lost $300 in this SC........

I don't think ALL YYC projects are frame reduced maybe there are some situations where the YYC does not help and others where it helps.

When I come back from secret assignment I will get to the bottom of this....... :P
Cheers and don't forget your engine LOL!

Well I can't be arsed to check that right now I'll be away for 2 weeks on special assignment :P  when I come back will give this some testing, don't expect anything drastic and will only make me realise that it was $300 well saved! :D

Issues Help Desk / Re: Can someone help me I have a question

LGM is JAVA but the ENIGMA engine is C++.

LGM is the IDE, it has 2 jars one for the IDE (LGM) and another PLUGIN enigma.jar which allows LGM projects to interface with ENIGMA engine and compile, the main core engine is C++, IDE is JAVA.

What you haven't heard ? Minimum to request payment $10k lol!

5 month is bloody unreasonable.

Yes it's going to be quite a delay, they sure know how to excite people and then break the news...GM2 probably will be delayed too - remember they said they hoped for a beta in 2014 LOL.
I bet you this "DELAY" can extend beyond new year.  They don't want to release the YYC before finalising the touches on 1.4, I bet you they bloody knew that and did that on purpose to lure people to spend money on exports before the 6th......nice and clever.
I'm leaving soon for 2 weeks (special assignment too :D) and when I am back I expect they will announce the delay OFFICIALLY and as usual people will complain they were having wet dreams over the YYC bla bla bla.....:P

Well ladies and gents,  here we are November 8, 2014, planet earth :)

Those who wet their trousers at the thought of them having the YYC and a hand job on November 6, will have to be a wee more patient..... effectively, things will be delayed for a while, as the YYC integration will be part of the next upgrade along with other fixes as well and 1.4 out the door, so obviously they want to bundle this in one update, so who here didn't actually expect a delay ? you will have to wait for the "free" YYC, it's been delayed, but the wait might be worth it...... software is a lot like sex..... nobody likes rushed releases....... (though some do :D)

Developing ENIGMA / Re: LateralGM 1.8.6.766
« on: November 06, 2014, 09:29:30 pm »
Ok works now.

Started some NEW egm, things compile now, I tried with all graphic systems.

VERY nice this searching in resources thing, this is extremely useful for big games when locating specific things,
combined with proper use of commenting, this can be a big time saver!
Thanks for this feature.

Otherwise yeah I have no time to spend hours for today but spent a few minutes torturing LGM and it survived lol.

Tomorrow evening as I come back I will put it to more torture and see :D

Ok not a problem about my EGM, they were only small demos used for debugging font issues - no biggie. But I could not compile one thing with the new LGM though.  I will install new updates tonight and see...will turn off HW acceleration though it kinda defeats the purpose to have that option in the first place :D

What the bloody hell did I miss ?
You downloaded both the new plugin and LGM jar correct? Open git-bash and enter "cd enigma-dev" "git fetch" and "git pull"

Of course I did i mentioned it :D
I have done it many times before,
both JARs were replaced with newer version.  Then I updated the engine.
I always did that fine. and yes the git says already up to date :D

You also need the engine updates, the EGM format has had some changes, I can fix your projects and PM them back to you.

It would also help if you could http://www.pastie.org or http://www.pastebin.com some of these errors after attempting the above.

I already updated the engine and I sent you a log of errors in PM
I'm sure this has to do with the changes in EGM (version numbering), it cannot open old EGMs......:P

Ok time for some brutal honesty and I don't want to hurt any feelings, I realise that this is work in progress, but bare with what's to come.

After having tried the new ENIGMA + new LGM, everything up to date properly I must say I am very disappointed SO FAR... (I stress the SO FAR part).... To me it looks like many things were broken with the many updates to enigma and LGM and many regressions.

I made several demos back then all were working fine 100% all were made with ENIGMA from scratch and saved to EGM.  I can't bloody open ANY of them !  I sent Robert screen dumps of errors.  Ignoring the box I can see the resources and all....but here is what I went through so far:

#1) LGM is far worse now, less stable, crashes frequently, far more than it did, random closing, with java errors all over the place - still the motherF* (pardon my french) JVM memory errors, IO errors, crap.  IDE HELL!

#2) Cannot run ANY of my previous demos, all were native EGM and worked fine.

#3) A LOT of shit does not compile, spitting errors that it cannot find the libinclude.h ! or other weird errors

#4) hitting buttons or using IDE for a while spits more rubbish windows full of errors.

This is from a CLEAN install, cleaned temp files, cleaned programdata area, replaced with recent JARs, updated, I know the drill done it before.

What the bloody hell did I miss ?
and no I am still on Java 7 not 8 so can't blame it on 7......

A bit disappointed I feel this project is regressing :( - more and more I am beginning to hate Java ! :)
BTW enigma plugin is at fault but I tried running it without the plugin and STILL it's bad....so some recent changes in LGM have broken many things and it didn't taking me extensive testing to trigger those.

I have not done ANY changes to my system since, and everything was working fine, well LGM was flakey but I could compile and run stuff.

What did I miss or do wrong, ,my EGM demo was a simple, basic functionality test and it does not work AT ALL now.
