@hpg678 I can't relate to all this hate on Microsoft. I reserve my hatred for Apple, personally.

Visual Studio 2017 Community is apparently open source according to this page:
https://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/
"Visual Studio Community 2017
Free, fully-featured IDE for students, open-source and individual developers"

« on: October 03, 2017, 11:58:35 pm »As for developing for Linux using Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition, I was not aware. Interesting.
I haven't actually tried it but all I think it is, is an IDE. You obviously can't go using the Windows API in your Linux code, (although that would actually be pretty cool if you could do that).
I think Microsoft is far from its doom, though. I mean, they still hold the vast majority of the desktop market share. Not to mention XBBox One is roughly about as popular as PS4. Windows Phone may be a dying product, but that won't effect Microsoft much considering it has been that way ever since Windows Phone became a thing.

Apparently you can develop for Linux using Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition. It does seem odd that a big company like Microsoft pretends to like the idea of there being a competitor that is free and open source.

I don't think when Goombert implemented shaders that it was ever finished, iirc.

Issues Help Desk / calling all Mac users
« on: September 29, 2017, 03:16:34 am »
I have a GameMaker extension I'd like ported to Mac and I wrote all the code and it should compile without errors because it pretty much uses all the same code as my Linux version, since they are both Unix based and yes I made sure everything I used in my code does in fact exist on Mac because I checked their online documentation.
So, anyone ok with trying to compile my code as a dylib using Code::Blocks (GCC for the compiler)?
I'll send the source in a PM.
Thanks!

Third Party / Re: DnD to GML utility

@hpg678
Sorry for the confusion, I meant they don't have a Linux IDE and don't plan on having one. They do have a Linux export, but you still need a Windows or Mac to use GMStudio at all because you need the IDE to export.

Just as a standard, for desktops I like to make sure I always support Windows, Mac, and Linux.
I wish I could (just for fun) make games for Solaris, ChromeOS, BSD, etc. but there aren't that many tools available to make games for those platforms, probably because of the lack of demand.
As for mobile, iOS and Android are all I care about. Tizen is dead and Windows Phone is dying.
tl;dr Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.

« on: September 14, 2017, 04:05:24 pm »Not sure when it may be fixed, busy working on sumptin' TOP secret so you won't have to worry about this problem ever again.
Sounds like a YoYoGames squirrel on the loose.

« on: September 13, 2017, 02:16:32 am »YoYoGames makes their offline manual by compiling chm's I guess. I don't know what they are doing for GMS2 yet because I am not sure if you can open chm files on Linux, but I imagine there exists some free program.
YoYoGames haven't made a Linux IDE for GMS 2, and Russell said they weren't planning on it.
Windows and Mac are the only platforms GMS 2 can or ever will run on.
Well that sucks!!!![]()

And thanks yeah that looks great, I just tested it out on the Wiki and it does look pretty sweet:

I think it looks fantastic! Thanks for the design HitCoder! (and Goombert for adding it to the wiki).

I really like the look of this! It reminds me a lot of Prison Ball, which was a game that was featured on the YoYoGames sandbox back in the day.
