Issues Help Desk / Re: Help With Installation Requested
« on: March 01, 2012, 04:05:34 am »No, no. It's an extra program that's pretty much unrelated to enigma.
Technically speaking:
SvnKit is a self-contained library that ENIGMA uses to automatically download and update itself.
Svn is a version management software. It's what we use ENIGMA with to make it so that we can have different versions of code at the same time, with some more updated than others. SvnKit kind of talks with this to decide if it needs updates, and to grab them (but you don't need SVN, because it's already pretty much contained inside SvnKit).
My *guess* is that SvnKit somehow screwed up a little bit and didn't download things correctly, and is now very confused, so it doesn't know how to proceed. As such, I want to go in manually and find out what's going on, and try to fix it. Since SvnKit is only an automated library tool, manual stuff requires Svn instead, and I don't think we can use the one inside SvnKit.
Now here's the simple version:
I want you to install an Svn client. It's completely optional, and won't interact with ENIGMA at all. We're going to use it to manually diagnose/fix your problem. Once we're done fixing your repository, you can either keep Svn or uninstall it. It will not run in the background.
That is, if you're interested. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until we get the Windows install working again (which might be a while).
This page will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about version control, but most importantly, where to get a client:
http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Revision_control
Once you have downloaded and installed a client (like TortoiseSVN), you then will want to add the binaries to your PATH variable (they should be inside of wherever you installed the client to, in a "bin/" folder. So just add the full path to that "bin" folder, including the "bin" part, to your PATH variable.
Once that's done, you should be able to open a Command Console and type "svn" and it will output something like "Type 'svn help' for usage."
Okay. I'll give it a shot, after tending to chores and errands, tomorrow. What's the worst that could happen?
...
Yeah. Probably best to not think of that. ^^

« on: February 26, 2012, 04:15:09 am »It does appear as though you have run into some weird SVN error, judging by the "incomplete C:\ENIGMA-R4-r915-win" message immediately before the SvnKit error.
And this occurs every time that you do a fresh install? How odd.
Do you have an SVN client installed?
Also, I'm helping Harri out with his zip, so maybe we can get you working from that end instead.
I probably don't, as I didn't even know "svnkit" existed, until I decided to install Enigma. Or if I do have one, I don't know I have one.
...
Is it supposed to be something that comes with that first file the instructions told me to download? I had check marked everything, when I had downloaded and installed that, just to be sure I didn't miss anything.

« on: February 25, 2012, 09:17:40 pm »Man, that's annoying. Rest assured, that problem concerns SVNkit, which we're moving away from. No one will ever have that damned error again as soon as we have a release from the Git.
Ah, I take it, then, that is a more complicated issue?

Harri's file worked, just fine, when I used his second recommended method for dealing with the error. I was able to compile the maze game (catch the clown seems to have some kind of error), as well as a game I had made in GM7, a couple of years back, when working through the tutorials.
The file I had downloaded from the download page on this web site is, as I mentioned, still not working. I believe the errors were the same, but I took another screen shot to be looked at.

Looking at the screen shot, the error mentions SvnKit, but the file I have is all lower-case. Would that make a difference?

« on: February 25, 2012, 06:48:25 pm »I'd just like to point out that I can only help with the default installation from the download/install page. I cannot help with Harri's zip.
From your first error (the one you took a screenshot of), you are experiencing multiple problems. The first is that SvnKit is missing. Please confirm that "C:\Program Files\!Game Creation Software\ENIGMA-R4-r915-win\plugins\shared\svnkit.jar" exists. If it does, I suspect an issue with the path name (you should not have an exclamation mark in the path name, "!Game Creation Software" is not good, like Harri said. Try installing to C:\ENIGMA-R4-r915-win instead. Then report your progress.
Also, you shouldn't need to wait 2 hours. Once you seeQuoteException in thread blahThat's an error, and no amount of waiting is going to fix it. Report it.
at org.enigma.blah
at org.enigma.blah
blah blah blah
I unzipped it in the recommended location, but I still received the same error. After checking, I found the file svnkit.jar in the plugins\shared folder.

« on: February 25, 2012, 06:41:51 pm »HaRRiKiRi: the two pages are exactly the same. http://enigma-dev.org/download.htm uses the Wiki API to query http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Install and display the contents (Wiki/Installation redirects to Wiki/Install). All links and content on all 3 of those pages will always be exactly the same. Update one (namely Wiki/Install), and the other 2 automatically update.
I have not read the rest of this topic yet. Just wanted to point that out.
Also, why are you unable to post in the Help Desk Section?
I don't know. When I had originally tried to post, there, I had a problem with getting my attachment included in the post. So, I redid the post with just the link from Photobucket, and it told me that I had already posted in the section. But I couldn't find the thread I had supposedly started, there. I tried to post, again, and, again, I got an error message (can't quite recall what it said, that time around), but, again, it wouldn't post. After all the frustrations I've been having with software, lately, I decided to simply not worry too much about it, and post here, instead, rather than stress, even further.

We'll probably be able to help you faster if you stop in at the IRC.
I may do that. But at the moment, I have other things going on, as well, so I'd hate to start up something like that, only to have to cut things short to tend to other things for several hours. Hence, the forum is something of a more comfortable means for me to seek aid, at the moment.

Oh, the file from the download page is not the most recent one? I tried searching the web site for a list of all the different versions of Enigma, but I didn't see one (although, that hardly means much, as I've been known to literally miss things that are right in front of me).
Anyhow, I'll give the version you have a try, as well as your other suggestions. Hopefully, one or a combination, thereof, will get things up and going.
=============
EDIT:
I had unpacked it into the main directory, as suggested, and deleted that one file you mentioned. Everything actually seemed to go fairly well, until I tried to compile the maze game that the download instructions suggested I try to make sure that it's compiling correctly. I got the following error message:
This application has failed to start because fmodex.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
So... What's fomodex.dll?

Heyla!
(I had tried to post this in the Help Desk section, but it seems I am unable to post there. This seemed like the next best place to post. I apologize if I made a mistake.)
I had attempted to install Enigma using the instructions for Windows from http://enigma-dev.org/download.htm. I had downloaded the first file, and just to be sure of things, I checked everything when installing it. While installing that first file, I got a notice saying that there was a newer version of something, catalogues, I believe, so I told it to install using that newer thing. I then downloaded the .zip file for enigma, clicked the "yes" button, and everything seemed fine, until it mentioned something about new libraries existing. I chose the "dev trunk" (or something to that effect), and waited, but the command window thingie then went and displayed some error messages. I took a screen shot of it, and included it as an attachment (I hope it attaches). I've tried, several times, to delete and re-extract the Enigma file. I even redownloaded the .zip file, several times. When I saw one thread, here, that mentions that updating just takes time, I left it alone for about 2 or three hours, but when I returned, it was still stuck at that same part with the error, which means nothing happened. So, what am I doing incompetently in the installation process?
If the information helps, I have the 32-bit version of Windows Vista, and I had gone through every executable program in the Enigma folder and gave it administation access. I had done the same with the folder created when installing that other file. But it doesn't seem to be an administrator access issue. So... I'm just a bit stymied. Any and all help in figuring this out is highly appreciated! Thank You!

P.S.
I had tried to attach a picture of the error message, but it didn't work. So I'm providing a link from a Photobucket upload.

Off-Topic / Re: Introductions

Heyla!
I had Game Maker 7 Pro, but due to real life obligations, I hadn't been able to do much, with it. Now, my interest in Game Maker has been rekindled, but because I don't want to purchase Game Maker 8.1, I decided to see if there was a file converter that will allow me to make use of examples and tutorials that made use of GM8 on GM7 Pro. That's how I came across Enigma/LateralGM.
It's an interesting program, though, and I have hopes of actually using both it and my copy of GM7 Pro (that is, once pro activation issues have been resolved). And since I've already come across some issues with installing Enigma, I figure I may as well make an account with the forum, as this very likely won't be the last time I may need help and advice.
Anyhow, that's about it. But before I end this post, I would like to extend my thanks to IsmAvatar and Josh @ Dreamland for taking the time to create something free for use for those who would love to one day make their game ideas a reality.
