Issues Help Desk / Install Enigma on Mac
« on: July 04, 2011, 11:12:54 pm »
Hi masters,
I've downloaded the SVN repo in a folder in a Mac OS X Snow Leopard instance.
Now I have tons of folders....
which is the LGM.jar that I have to calll to work with Enigma in Mac ?
My instincts guide me to go to "update-stable" folder....
and when I try to open the jar file, the LGM complains that could not find the MAKER.
What can I do ?
Thanks in advance.
Fred

Function Peer Review / "Choose" statement
« on: July 03, 2011, 04:15:35 pm »
Guys, in GM we have a very usefull built-in function called "choose()";
From GM Help: choose(val1,val2,val3,...) Returns one of the arguments choosen randomly. The function can have up to 16 arguments
I'd like to see some suggestions to perform the same results in Enigma.
Thanks
Fred

Issues Help Desk / Unable to Run (FIXED)
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:33:48 am »
Masters... I tried to run my first game built in enigma....
look at this error
+++++Make completed successfully.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Failed to write resources to compiler-specified file, ``. Write permissions to valid path?
Built to C:/Users/Fred/AppData/Local/Temp/egm2213968310952470959.tmp
mingw32-make[1]: Leaving directory `c:/Program Files (x86)/ENIGMA-R4-r681-win/ENIGMAsystem/SHELL'
Is that write permissions issues in the folder C:/Users/Fred/AppData/Local/Temp/ ?

Proposals / Forums - Users country info
« on: April 08, 2011, 12:06:50 pm »
I know this can sounds very silly.... but would be interesting if inside the posts, in the user information also shows the user's country. So we can have an idea that where in the world people are contributing.
For example... I am from Brazil.

Proposals / Sprite Editor / Sound Editor
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:09:26 am »
Hi,
One of the first think I miss when I started handle with LateralGM is a sprite editor. I realized that I can only Load sprites. Sometimes we have to create very simple sprites (like a square, circle) that a very simple sprite editor can save time. So, a simple sprite editor is the first topic.
In the same line, a simple sound editor (with simple functions like to cut part of the sound) can be either a useful tool to make the creation progress faster.
What do u think, guys ?
Regards,
Fred.

Proposals / Official Tutorials
« on: April 08, 2011, 08:57:28 am »
I suggest we have a centralized place (can be the wiki) to contribute with tutorials that can be approved by the founders (or other old contributors who have the founders trust). So those tutorials will become Official Tutorials.
Some suggestions for the official tutorials:
------------------------------- Compiling Tutorials Section -------------------------------------------------
1) How to compile for Linux (even when running Enigma on Windows).
2) How to compile for Mac (even running Enigma on Windows).
3) How to compile for Android (even running Enigma on Windows).
4) How to compile for Iphone (even running Enigma on Windows).
5) How to compile for Nintendo DS (even running Enigma on Windows).
p.s: The compiling tutorials basically will show what do you have to instlal (packages, skd, compilers, etc) and how to configure it (environment variables) etc.... also how to change LateralGM configuration to do in each case.
p.s2: Of course we can extend the tutorials to show for example how to compile for Android even running Enigma on Linux, Mac, etc... can be further... but we can start from Windows. I think this will make Enigma closer to most users (specially noob users). I believe the main purpose is to provide a platform to make games VERY EASY no matters where the game will run.
----------------------------Extending Section---------------------------------------------
6) How to add new Libs in LateralGM (once Enigma filesystem in very different from GM)
7) How to work with DLL's in LateralGM (same reason)
8) How to work with GameMaker Extensions in LateralGM (same reason)
--------------------------Enigma Language----------------------------------------
9) Which functions, variables or any program sintax that only exists for Enigma (not exists in GML).
That's it.... feel free to increase items into this list.

« on: April 07, 2011, 10:35:43 pm »
Sorry about the noob question but...
Can I make suggestions just for the compiler or I also can make suggestions for the GUI (LateralGM) ?
Thanks,
Fred

General ENIGMA / First questions
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:27:59 pm »
Hi all,
this is my very first post.
I found about the Enigma Project by accident, and I am very impressed of what I see.
I follow GM and the GMC forum since 2004 (it not means that I am a great game developer / programmer hehehe) and I am an enthusiastic in this area.
What excites me more than a fast/performer compiled game is the ambition to provide the portability to other plataforms (non windows).
Reading some threads here I found some information but I still not sure if I understood... I have some questions I want to clarify:
1) Is there a real intention to perform a compiled file (in other words, run the game) to others platforms ? When do you expect to have the option to "compile" for:
a) Linux
b) Mac
c) Android
d) IPhone
e) Nintendo DS
f) HTML (embbeded on a page)
g) JAR
f) Are there other plans ?
2) When some of these "compile-to" options were done, will be showed like a compile option in LateralGM (probably in Enigma menu)?
3) Can I easily use LIBS, Extensions and DLL's like I do in GameMaker ?
4) I see you are working on a "proprietary" file format for Enigma/LateralGM (source file). Will be the default filetype ? Can I easily open GMK and GM6 formats in LateralGM/Enigma (even in future) ? It will still supporting GM file formats ? (of course we are talking about plans and tendencies...)
Sorry if some questions are too much noob. 2 hours ago I never heard about.... =)
Anyway... congratulations, the initiative is fantastic!! I am very excite to contribute.
