[edit] [purge] Template documentation

Usage

This is {{Cleanup}}.

Place this template at the top of pages needing cleanup. If concerning a particular section of a page, please this template ate the top of the section.

If suitable, use a more specific cleanup template. Because this tag is general, identify the specific problems on the page's talk page. The template may be removed if it is not possible for a subsequent user to identify what needs to be cleaned up.

The template detects which namespace it is used in and changes accordingly:
Article
Category
Template

The descriptor (on this page, it appears in the template message as the word "template") can be changed from its default using the first parameter, for instance {{Cleanup|section}} or {{Cleanup|disambiguation page}}.

The reason parameter, {{Cleanup|reason=reason}} may be used to explain the purpose of identifying the page for cleanup, but it is better to use the talk page for this purpose, as other users can comment and discuss improvements.

Add a new section to the talk page explaining the type and extent of cleanup required so editors will know what to address, and when to remove this template.

This template is a self-reference.

Do not substitute this template.

Use this tag when the article needs improvement per Wikipedia's "better" standard. Articles that violate policy need more direct action.

Categorization

This template will pages on which it is used to a specific category containing pages needing cleanup or a dated subcategory thereof.

Alternative

If the problem is correctable with the skills you already possess, consider being bold and fixing it yourself, rather than applying this template and leaving it for someone else to clean up.
