ENIGMA really shouldn't call it's scripting language GML, as neither is a proper subset of either. E++ is more like it, or C.En, to show its relationship to C++. Those are just suggestions, thoughts? Oh and you can move this, but this is a comment about this forum name.

It isn't actually called GML, as that'd be copyright infringement.

It is unofficially EDL, but has no official name.

If calling it GML is copyright infringement, wouldn't making the language exactly the same also be?

Language can't be copyrighted, but names can be. So it can't be called GML, but it can be exactly the same.

Exactly.  For example, there are several versions of BASIC made by several people, so why not GML?

Names cannot be copyrighted. They might be trademarked, which is something completely different.

Trademark law exists to let customers know what they buy. I do not think "GML" or "Game Maker Language" is trademarked (or can be trademarked at all), and if it is, you could still use the name, because it is purely descriptive.

Of course, confusing the users would not be good in any case. If the language is exactly the same as GML, you can call it GML. If it's different but compatible, you might say it's compatible with GML. Otherwise you might say it's similar to GML.

Even if "Game Maker Language" is trademarked, you can still call it GML, because GML can be anything. It could be Gnomes Making Love, or Gnu Master License, or Gaseous Molten Lava, or Game Manipulation Logic

Ya, the issue is less about useless copyright issues and more about there being more suitable names

E++ sounds good...

What does E.D.L. stand for?  Enigmas' Delicious Language?

Enigmas'?  It would be ENIGMA's, if anything.  And either way, it's "ENIGMA Development Language".

I like the name much better when no one knows what it stands for.

I often bash GML as being Game Markup Language. <game><mmo><error="fail">Your card doesn't support this awesomeness.</error></mmo></game>

But all the closing tags are optional, of course.

Any graphics card can play a Game Maker game at a solid 2 FPS.  Any.  That is, unless the line of code checking your OS doesn't find out you're using 98.

nope, I have computers at my school that won't run GM at all.
...
That's only because they don't have Direct3D installed, though.
